PlayerLync raises $12M Series B to fuel growth

DTC-based PlayerLync closed a $12 million Series B funding yesterday in a round led by Volition Capital, which also saw participation from long-time investor Anschutz Venture Group. The new capital will help the company fuel the growth of its operational performance and workforce learning software by enabling it to double down on its marketing efforts, hire additional team members and expand into new markets. “We’re filling a large gap for enterprises, and we’ve got a winning combination that’s allowed us to earn business from marquee brands, pursue partnerships with the largest companies in the world and quickly secure the leadership position in this category,” said CEO Bob Paulsen in a statement. “We’re thrilled by this vote of confidence and to be working beside high-caliber investors like Anschutz and Volition.” [Read more.]

Pie Insurance moves into new office with plans to double its team

Workers compensation insurance startup Pie Insurance moved into a 4,300-square-foot office space this week as they prepare to double the size of its Denver team in the coming months. The company caters to small businesses in blue-collar industries, such as construction and auto repair, as well as restaurants, bars and retail businesses. Though headquartered in Washington D.C., the startup has had a team in Denver since its founding in 2017 and has quickly outgrown its D.C. counterpart. Pie raised an $11 million round of funding in July, which has spurred much of its recent growth and will support efforts to expand services into new markets throughout 2019. [Read more.]

Quizlet lands in Denver with plans to grow new office to 300 employees

In its first expansion beyond its San Francisco headquarters, edtech company Quizlet has announced the opening of a new office right here in Downtown Denver. Having experienced 100-percent year-over-year revenue growth and more than 50-percent year-over-year user growth, the company plans to double down on the development of its tech platform as well as its expansion into international markets. Quizlet expects to add at least 20 to 25 strategic hires in the first year — with an initial focus on roles in engineering, product management and design — and will grow to several hundred Denver employees over the next few years. Rogue Wave Software acquires visual collaboration startup Gliffy

On Wednesday, Louisville-based Rogue Wave Software announced the acquisition of Gliffy, whose products, Gliffy Diagram and Gliffy Project, help teams improve visual collaboration. It is one of the most-downloaded tools in the Atlassian marketplace and has more than 10,000 active users. The acquisition will further expand Rogue Wave’s portfolio of tech solutions, which aim to help enterprises around the world build, connect and secure applications and deliver them to customers with speed. Documoto brings on Cuyler Jones as chief technology officer

Denver-based Documoto made a critical hire this week, adding tech leader Cuyler Jones as its new chief technology officer. Jones will lead the company’s engineering and product teams as it continues to expand on its cloud-based software for the equipment manufacturing industry. His career spans leadership roles in industries ranging from finance and payments to data infrastructure and distributed systems.
