ReadyTalk is changing the way businesses hold meetings. Their audio and web conferencing tools power everything from small meetings to large web events. Dan Cunningham is the CTO of ReadyTalk, and as such, is responsible for the technology strategy of the company. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. We caught up with the avid snowboarder to learn more about how he's leading ReadyTalk's technology.

What technologies power your business?

We depend on a wide variety of technologies. We utilize Amazon EC2, Rackspace and our own data centers for infrastructure. Our systems are all Linux based with many of them now being deployed as Docker containers. Our software stack includes some traditional languages such as Java, but is increasingly using newer languages and frameworks such as Scala, GO, Node.js, Angular and WebRTC.

What upcoming tech project are you most proud of?

We could not be more excited about the possibilities that web technologies such as WebRTC will enable. Our teams are working hard on integrating these frameworks into mobile, browser and desktop applications that enable effortless collaboration across the workplace.

What trends do you see in the tech scene over the next three years?

Companies are becoming increasingly accepting of a truly remote workforce. Empowering an employee to work wherever they want allows businesses to recruit and keep top talent from any location. Even those who do not work remotely are connected around the clock and need to be productive wherever they may be, whether that's through their computer, tablet, phone, or even a smart watch. This trend is having a significant impact on how work gets done and is shaping the technology around it. More and more services will move to the cloud, not just for traditional justifications, but for the need for ubiquitous mobile access and to better manage security. Our existing communication staples of email, voice mail and instant messaging are ripe for disruption as better team based tools enable greater collaboration and less friction. Finally, as an emerging younger workforce enters the market not having depended on these antiquated technologies, many of these applications will be brought in by the end user rather than from an IT department.

What sort of people do you look for when hiring?

Colorado also has a strong technology subculture that is among the best in the nation and something that we are extremely proud to be a part of.
