Techstars Demo Day: Meet tonight's presenting companies

This year’s Techstars 2015 Boulder class includes an incredible variety of companies. They do everything from make wearable safety devices, to bring the sharing economy to the wedding industry. They make software that turns children into composers, and are reinventing the way people buy and sell houses.

“As in previous years, the quality of applicants and companies we’ve met on our journey to select these 10 companies has been truly inspiring,” Zach Neis, Managing Director at Techstars said in a statement. “The caliber of entrepreneurs and product innovations continue to impress.”

Tonight, after completing the intensive and prestigious 13-week program, those 10 companies will demo their products to the public. It’s kind of like the event Apple is holding today, only the people on stage in Boulder are all likely to be at least 10 years younger than the dinosaurs in Cupertino.

The event is notable mostly because the companies that go through Techstars’ program are the cream of the tech startup crop, and some are likely to become household names. The program accepts less than 1 percent of applicants, and completion is a badge of honor. Notable local graduates include companies like Orbotix (makers of the BB-8 Star Wars droid), SendGrid, and Occipital, amongst others.

The program itself is broken down into three one-month segments. The first involves founders receiving feedback on their product or service from Techstars’ mentors, often resulting in a product pivot. In the second month the companies work on specific issues they’re having, be it anything from product development to customer service. Then, in the last month, the companies develop their post-Techstars action plan — think fundraising, pitching or product launches.

Anyway, if you happen to be in Boulder tonight, stop by the Boulder Theater to check out the event. If not, here are the 10 companies that will be presenting:
