We sat down with 10 Colorado tech professionals to hear why they decided to accept a position at their current companies. They shared narratives of meeting genuine people during the interview process, opportunities to build meaningful products, a company culture focused on collaboration and much more.

Not only are the following companies well-poised for future growth, but they’re also chock-full of dedicated employees who look forward to helping drive their organizations forward.

“As we build out our presence in Denver, I’m excited for the impact we will have on the growing tech scene here in the Mile High City,” Donald Adetoye, a local sales development manager, said.

Vince Molieri
Engineering Manager

HIMSS is a healthtech company dedicated to improving health care in quality, safety, cost effectiveness and access through the use of information technology and management systems. HIMSS delivers key insights, education and events to healthcare providers, governments and market suppliers.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at HIMSS, and why?

What drew me to join HIMSS and this project particularly was a combination of three factors. First, I have the opportunity to do meaningful work that makes the world a better place. Second, I am helping build up a product from the early stages, which includes hiring the best talent, developing best practices and selecting the most appropriate technologies. And lastly, we have the opportunity to move fast like a startup, but get the stability and benefits of a larger organization. It’s a rare treat to have all three of these factors in one position.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where HIMSS is headed?

Being at this stage of the product development is extremely exciting. There are so many good ideas across the organization. Our challenge is choosing what not to pursue as much as it is choosing what to pursue. Fundamentally, we’re filling a gap in the healthcare and IT space. So, as we get the foundations laid, the thing I am most excited about is that we will learn from our users and might even find that the next big innovation isn’t even on our current roadmap. We have a compelling mission to fulfill, and I can’t wait to continue learning how we can best fulfill it.

Krystal Cooper
Director of People & Culture • Reserve Trust

Reserve Trust is a fintech company that builds financial structure as a service. The company enables software and payment companies to embed accounts and payments into their workflows.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at Reserve Trust, and why?

From my initial meetings with the leadership team, I could tell they were genuinely interested in building a culture focused on communication, collaboration and knowledge sharing. This is a place where we are encouraged to bring our best practices to the table and challenge the process to improve it and innovate. There is also a strong focus on employee development, recognition and engagement. Being a fully-remote team due to the ongoing pandemic, there are challenges and opportunities to make all of these things real and best-in-class — and that is our goal!

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where Reserve Trust is headed?

The people and culture function is brand new for Reserve Trust. The next year has us focused on building a more diverse organization and creating additional staff development opportunities. We also want to provide more resources and occasions for employees to connect with one another outside of work-related conversation, and ensure they feel appreciated and heard. I’m very excited to be a part of building this organization and supporting our corporate growth.

Megan Callaghan
Director of Enterprise Applications • Mersive

Mersive is a wireless collaboration product suite. Its solutions aim to increase productivity by allowing any number of users on any device to wirelessly share content and connect to remote participants using any web conferencing service.

As a tenured employee, what has been the biggest reason you’ve stayed at Mersive so long?

In addition to liking my role and its responsibilities, Mersive is a caring company. We’ve continued to evolve and rise to the challenges brought on by the recent pandemic. As an international company headquartered in an office in downtown Denver, we responded swiftly to the changing climate. I have seen the company be transparent in their communications, coming together to improve while remote. Impressive and rare traits like being able to admit when certain strategies don’t work are reasons I am glad to be a member of the Mersive family.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where your company is headed or, more specifically, the work you’ll do to help Mersive get there?

Right now is an important time for the company. We’re growing out of the startup and rapid growth phase and into the mature growth phase. To make that jump, we must be disciplined and purposeful in how we operate as a business. I am focused on upgrades — implementing enterprise-level systems and data structures so that we can scale. This includes things like improving integrations and creating integrations where none previously existed — allowing us to convert manual and other “swivel chair” activities to automation. We’re also working on improving our customer experience. This means providing clients with more opportunities for self-service as well as visibility into their data.

Mercedes Norman
Supervisor, Provider Managed Services • GHX

GHX is a healthcare business and data automation company. Its cloud-based exchange platform empowers healthcare organizations to enable better patient care and maximize industry savings.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at GHX, and why?

The deciding factor for me when accepting my role with GHX was the initial HR discussion. At the time of the interview, I was going through the process of finalizing my offer with another company. Something told me just to do the interview. I appreciated how I was able to connect with my interviewer and learn about the company culture. She asked me tactical questions but also made an effort to get to know me personally. I have been with the company for three years now and I could not imagine being anywhere else. I truly feel like I am making an impact and that I am valued. I have a purpose here, which is important for me in my work.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where GHX is headed?

Our culture of innovation. Our products drive savings and influence better business processes for our customers by letting us focus on the tactical details so our customers can focus on what really matters, like the outcome of patient care.

Choozle is a digital advertising software platform that leverages detailed consumer data to power programmatic advertising campaigns across display, video, mobile and other mediums.

I have enjoyed being a part of the Choozle team for almost six years now because I have consistently been challenged with new responsibilities and opportunities for my professional growth. The one thing that has remained constant during our years of high growth has been Choozle’s incredible culture and work-life balance. I am energized by my coworkers, appreciate working at a company that values me as a person, and truly enjoy being a part of such a genuine team.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where Choozle is headed?

The digital advertising industry that Choozle fits into is rapidly changing in the coming year. This creates a huge opportunity for myself and our team to stay ahead of the curve and adapt to the changes. I am excited to see how Choozle, as well as myself and other members of the sales team, can impact the digital advertising marketplace. Now, like never before, is an exciting time to be in advertising tech, especially at a growing company like Choozle.

Donald Adetoye
Manager, Sales Development • Contentful

Contentful helps brands manage content across their digital products and channels. Its platform stores all content in a single hub, breaking down silos and future-proofing both existing and future digital investments.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at Contentful, and why?

At this stage in my career, there were three main things I was looking for in my next adventure. First, a company that was helping customers transform their digital strategies to meet the demands of COVID-19. Second, a company with values that aren’t just words, but rather things ingrained into its DNA. Lastly, a company with a clear vision and path for professional growth and development.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where Contentful is headed?

The sales team at Contentful is experiencing tremendous growth. As a leader in the sales org, I get the honor of being at the forefront of hiring and mentoring the future leaders in the business. As we build out our presence in Denver, I’m excited for the impact we will have on the growing tech scene here in the Mile High City. We take growth very seriously at Contentful, with “embody a growth mindset” being one of our core values.

As a manager, it’s my responsibility to understand what growth means for each member of the team, then provide them with resources to codify a path to reaching their maximum potential. With plans to triple the team here in North America in 2021, I am honored to be on the front lines supporting both the vision and execution of this goal.

Latisha Carter
Head of Partner Services, US • Xero

Fintech company Xero provides small businesses with cloud-based accounting software. Its platform gives companies instant access to their financials, anywhere.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at Xero, and why?

Xero has a culture that is contagious. I experienced the human value in every aspect of the recruiting journey. It was refreshing to connect with people in a meaningful way during such an unpredictable time.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where Xero is headed?

I have the pleasure of leading our partner services teams. I’m excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue to support accountants and bookkeepers to create greater efficiencies for them and their clients.

Small business is at the heart of everything we do. As the economy continues through recovery, many small businesses will be looking for help on where their business stands or how they can make plans to grow. Now more than ever, small businesses need advice and guidance from a trusted advisor like an accountant or bookkeeper. We look forward to supporting them on this journey and helping small business owners shift from a “do it yourself” mentality to a “do it together” approach so they can gain a competitive edge.

Jeanie Hornung
Enterprise Account Executive • PlayerLync

PlayerLync’s mobile workforce enablement platform combines mobile learning, operational support and compliance, content management and communications into one easy-to-use application.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at PlayerLync, and why?

The reason I accepted the enterprise AE role at PlayerLync was because of the genuine people I met. In the interview process, the team that I spoke with made it quite clear that integrity was an important criterion to them. They asked me questions that were designed to bring this out in our conversation. I was also able to ask questions of the team. The answers they gave me revealed that integrity was not just important but an everyday practice. It’s important to me that the organization and leadership I work for reflect my core values. This came out loud and clear in the interview process.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where PlayerLync is headed?

Our partners and prospects are dealing with a significant labor shortage that is not going away anytime soon. So, recruitment and retention are critical to both the short and long-term health of their businesses. Collaborating with them to provide a solution, along with best practices that build culture and community, drive operational efficiencies and reduce turnover, allows them to focus on growing their businesses. I really enjoy problem solving with clients and driving to the positive outcomes they seek.

Devon Bridges
Business Development Manager • BombBomb

BombBomb creates number-boosting content solutions for sales teams. Its platform uses video messaging to make sales professionals stand out in a prospect’s inbox. In addition to video messaging, the company provides tracking, canned responses, scheduling and reminders to optimize users’ sales potential.

As a tenured employee, what has been the biggest reason you’ve stayed at BombBomb so long?

I’ve worked at BombBomb for just about four years now. I’ve grown significantly as a person and in my career thanks to the amazing mentors around me. I’ve stayed at BombBomb because of the leadership that helped to develop and support me in my career and personal life goals. I had set a goal in early 2020 to purchase a house within the year. I worked with leadership to set myself up on a clear path to achieve that goal. And in October 2020, I bought my first house. I also had a goal to run the business development team. Again, I was able to work with leadership to set a clear path of what I needed to achieve to earn that promotion. I was promoted into that role in May.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where BombBomb is headed?

The future of BombBomb is really exciting! We’re on a mission to rehumanize the planet, and my team and I get to directly reach out to prospects to help them rehumanize their communication. I’m excited to continue to help develop those around me to set and achieve their goals. I’m also excited to help mentor teammates to progress in their careers as well as work with my mentors to develop my career further. What I’m most excited about though is the fact that there’s so much opportunity here.

Justin Griffiths
Director of Software Engineering • Strive Health

Through comparative and predictive data analytics, Strive Health aims to improve care for patients with kidney disease with early identification and engagement and home-first dialysis.

What was the deciding factor for you when you accepted your job at Strive Health, and why?

I was first convinced to leave a tenured role by Strive’s compelling vision to build a sophisticated modern technology platform to improve outcomes for patients. This includes patients who may not even know they are suffering from kidney disease.

Looking to the future, what excites you most about where Strive Health is headed?

We’ve only just begun to build a data science and analytics platform that will revolutionize kidney care in the U.S. I’m excited to integrate new, exciting data sources — such as IoT, health-connected devices and more — to put predictive, actionable data in the hands of our medical staff.
