Job Description:

Microchip Technology Inc. has an Engineer I–Applications opening based in Austin, Texas.  The successful candidate will have excellent problem solving and communication skills, who is interested in an Applications Engineering role, which focuses on networking and communications protocols and Multi-core Processor. You will help key customers understand and integrate Microchip’s Optical Transport, Data Center Interconnect, and Multi-core Processor solutions into their products.

In this role, you’ll partner directly with major equipment manufacturers to understand their requirements, manage deliverables, and support everything from early design bring-up through full production. An applications engineer’s core mission is to guide customers all the way to that production stage. You’ll work hands-on with customers to answer technical questions, reproduce issues in the lab, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve any problems they run into. The work is challenging and fast-paced, offering exposure across a wide range of engineering areas—from multicore processors, high-speed interfaces to C++/Python development, advanced communication protocols, and more.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to support customers

  • Own the responsibility of providing technical support for customer post-production products, which includes diagnose and characterize customer-reported issues, providing timely technical support and actionable engineering feedback.

  • Develop product collateral, product demo as well as deliver customer training

  • Understand customer requirements, system architecture, and HW/SW design details to help them fully realize the functionality they need.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in EE, CS, or CE

  • Strong debugging skills and experience with bench top equipment such as protocol analyzers/exercisers, JTAG debuggers, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes

  • Knowledge of embedded systems, software tool chain, and boot flow

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and presentation skills

  • Be able to work independently, yet in a team environment 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with Linux or other real-time operating systems

  • Familiar with board-level debug & bring-up

  • Familiar with scripting (Python and Bash) and software/firmware development toolchain

  • Knowledge with hardware design methodology

  • Familiar with networking protocols (OTN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, HDLC, POS, SONET, etc.)

  • Familiar with multi-core processors (RISC-V, ARM, etc.)

  • Ability to leverage AI LLM models for tasks like natural language processing, code generation, and data analysis.
