On Monday, Apple announced that it plans to grow its engineering team in Boulder, with plans to have nearly 700 employees in the region by 2026. This goal marks a 20 percent increase from the goal Apple announced back in 2018, which promised to add “hundreds of jobs” in Boulder.

This news is just one part of the company’s five-year plan to help rebuild the economy post-pandemic. All told, Apple wants to invest $430 billion and add 20,000 tech jobs across the U.S., with a focus on silicon engineering, artificial intelligence, 5G and manufacturing.

Although details in the company announcement were sparse, the company does appear to be hiring at its Boulder office, with more than two dozen open positions. Apple also says it plans to spend tens of billions of dollars across nine states, including Colorado, to further innovate in silicon engineering and 5G technology specifically.

Apple is not the first big tech company to announce an expansion in Colorado. Amazon, Facebook and Google have also announced major office expansions here over the past year.

In the press release, Apple outlined similar growth plans in several other metro areas including Boston and LA. It also said it plans to invest more than $1 billion in North Carolina and will soon begin construction on a new campus in the Research Triangle area, with the goal of creating at least 3,000 new jobs in machine learning, artificial intelligence, software engineering and other “cutting edge fields.”

“At this moment of recovery and rebuilding, Apple is doubling down on our commitment to US innovation and manufacturing with a generational investment in reaching communities across all 50 states,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement. “We’re ... investing in the next generation of innovative new businesses, and in all our work, building toward a greener and more equitable future.”
