Job Description Summary
The VP, P&C Technical Performance Excellence defines and governs organization-wide quality standards and execution frameworks for Property & Casualty. Partnering with business, risk, data, and technology teams, they lead the establishment of quality metrics and governance forums, including sponsorship of operational quality and risk committees, to enable consistent performance monitoring, aggregation of risk themes across business units (and the P&C group) and prioritization of findings using quantifiable standards.The role drives the articulation and adoption of the “P&C Nationwide way” of technical excellence across underwriting, claims and service including shared tools, playbooks, and best practices while fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and scalable quality outcomes aligned with P&C priorities. As a thought leader, the role also champions appropriate AI and machine learning solutions supporting technical excellence to optimize quality reviews and insights and embed new ways of thinking into underlying processes.
Responsibilities include establishing quality assurance standards and risk governance, leading performance measurement and reporting, driving quality improvement and automation, and scaling best practices across the practitioner community.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Assurance Standards and Risk Governance
Develop and maintain P&C-wide quality assurance standards and playbooks guiding consistent execution across all lines of defense
Partner with risk, Internal Audit, ERM, and compliance to align quality activities with enterprise risk frameworks
Lead risk-based deep dives on quality issues and manage escalation of systemic risks to leadership
Champion AI/ML integration to enhance quality reviews and embed innovation in governance
Performance Measuring and Reporting
Define, report on and assess quality metrics, aggregating insights and risk themes across business units for executive reporting
Oversee development of executive dashboards and collaborate with data teams to ensure reporting accuracy
Facilitate cross-BU risk theme discussions in P&C group level and business unit forums
Sponsor key risk forums such as PCORC (amongst others), presenting actionable insights that influence decision-making
Quality Improvement and Automation
Prioritize quality findings using quantifiable standards, ensure action plans are regularly monitored and reported, and elevate common themes across P&C tied to technology and capability investments present in our portfolio
Oversee shared quality tools, templates, and platforms, promoting adoption to reduce variation and automate processes
Scaling Best Practices and Communities of Practices
Define and institutionalize the “P&C Nationwide Way” for technical excellence
Identify and scale proven practices across business units to drive consistency
Lead communities of practice that connect quality, risk, and business leaders to foster innovation and alignment
Represent P&C in enterprise governance forums advocating for quality and execution excellence
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: SVP, Business Performance P&C; leads a team of Quality and Risk professionals
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related discipline. Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s in Risk Management, or related field) strongly preferred.
Licenses/Certifications/Designations: Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or similar are a plus but not required
Experience: Minimum 10–15 years of progressive experience in P&C insurance, risk management, quality assurance, or similar roles with a focus in underwriting, claims and service across commercial and personal lines. Demonstrated leadership in establishing and managing enterprise-wide quality or risk governance programs. Experience working across multiple lines of defense (first, second, and third lines). Experience collaborating with senior leadership, business units, and enterprise risk/compliance functions. Exposure to data analytics and reporting tools to enable performance measurement and insights. Proven track record driving process improvements and automation initiatives leveraging technology.

Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of quality assurance, risk management frameworks, and insurance operations
Analytical Skills: Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and root cause analysis capabilities
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex topics clearly
Collaboration: Proven ability to build strong partnerships across business, risk, data, and technology teams
Change Management: Skilled at driving cultural change and embedding new ways of working
Technology Acumen: General familiarity with automation, enterprise quality platforms etc.
Detail-Oriented: Attention to detail balanced with ability to see the big picture
Customer Focus: Understands and aligns quality initiatives with customer and business needs
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
