At XBOW, we’re redefining the future of cybersecurity by building the world's first autonomous pentester, powered by AI. Today, the gold standard for securing software systems is human pentesters, but with the rise of artificial intelligence, we’re stepping up to scale offensive security to meet the ever-growing demand.
AI is transforming the landscape of both cybersecurity and cyberattacks. While millions of people without security expertise are creating software, bad actors are using AI to launch more effective attacks. XBOW fights back with AI-driven superpowers, enabling security teams to stay one step ahead.
Backed by Sequoia Capital and Altimeter, and a team that includes the creators of GitHub Copilot and GitHub Advanced Security, XBOW is not just keeping up with the times—we’re shaping the future of cybersecurity. Our mission is simple: to defeat the bad actors before they strike, using AI to revolutionize how we approach offensive security.
We’re building something that must be built, and we’re the team to do it. Join us in shaping the next frontier of autonomous security.
About this roleWe're looking for a technical writer who is passionate about helping customers get the most out of our products. Our documentation philosophy is simple: reduce friction in the UI first, and when you can't reduce it any more, write content that gets users back on track as fast as possible. We also believe that documentation is a team sport where everyone has a role to play.
You'll be creating documentation for a technically sophisticated security platform. This means working with complex systems, offensive security concepts, and enterprise deployment scenarios—then making them accessible to practitioners who need answers quickly.
This isn't about maintaining a wiki or transcribing engineering notes. You'll be working directly with design, product, and engineering teams to test features, influence UI decisions, and build documentation systems that scale. You'll own content strategy across your domain and help establish how we document at XBOW.
What you'll doCollaborate with product managers to define content strategy for new releases as they move from private preview to full release.
Suggest changes to UI text that improve the user experience and reduce the need to "document the UI".
Provide feedback on new features by testing them hands-on and helping engineering teams find edge cases and bugs before they ship to customers.
Plan content based on user needs by working with customer success and go-to-market teams to identify what information different personas need to complete their job and how best to provide it.
Create technical documentation including API docs, integration guides, tutorials, troubleshooting guides, and reference materials.
Build content systems that scale through templates, style guides, and docs-as-code workflows.
Test and validate what you document by running code examples, calling APIs, and reproducing scenarios yourself.
Gather and act on feedback from usage analytics, support tickets, and conversations with customers.
You'll work with people across all disciplines at XBOW to understand our products, our users, and their different use cases.
What you've doneWritten technical documentation for developer, security, or enterprise admin audiences such as API docs, integration guides, or technical reference materials.
Documented complex technical concepts for multiple skill levels, from beginners to experts.
Worked with docs-as-code workflows using Git, markup languages, pull requests, and documentation tooling.
Tested and used the products you documented - you don't just write about features, you understand them through hands-on experience.
Collaborated with engineering teams in fast-moving environments where you need to find a balance between content scope and shipping deadlines.
You're intellectually curious — You don't stop at "what does this button do," you want to understand why it exists and what problems it solves.
You're self-directed — You identify what's missing, what's confusing, and what needs updating without waiting to be assigned tasks.
You communicate with precision — You can explain complex technical concepts clearly without dumbing them down or making them impenetrable.
You're comfortable with ambiguity and ready to evolve with the role — You can work effectively when requirements aren't fully defined and understand that your role will grow into new areas as the company scales. You see this evolution as an opportunity rather than a disruption.
You understand when to use AI tools — You've already experimented with using Claude, ChatGPT, or similar tools to improve your work and see them as an augmentation, not a replacement.
GitHub for everything—pull requests, actions, issues, projects, pages
Markdown as the foundation for all documentation
Modern documentation frameworks (you'll help choose and implement)
API specification tools like OpenAPI/Swagger
Claude Code and Claude API for AI-assisted workflows
Analytics and feedback tools to measure what's working
