Help Supersonic Software Stay Unblocked

At Boom, engineering moves fast—and every second counts. We’re designing and building Overture, the world’s fastest airliner, and we need internal systems that are just as high-performance.

As an IT Systems Engineer, you’ll be part of the small, nimble team responsible for the systems behind our people—from provisioning laptops to configuring virtual servers and solving thorny access-control issues. You’ll tackle a steady mix of strategic IT infrastructure projects and hands-on user support, moving between automation work, troubleshooting, and scaling services with agility. If you’re curious, systems-minded, and happy to jump into the unknown, you’ll thrive here.

Role Overview

  • Manage and automate identity and access systems—Okta for SSO and MFA, plus group membership, directory sync, and lifecycle management
  • Triage and resolve IT support tickets—ranging from VPN issues to laptop fixes—with urgency and empathy
  • Support end users across macOS, Windows, and Linux—including automation, patching, and secure provisioning
  • Support infrastructure across on-prem and cloud environments—including virtual servers, DNS, network access, and cloud storage
  • Support and maintain data storage and transfer solutions to meet the evolving needs of engineering, design, and operations teams
  • Support SaaS platform access, configuration, and vendor escalations across the company
  • Manage and maintain site-wide domain names and DNS services
  • Maintain and improve physical access systems (badge access) and A/V systems (conference rooms)
  • Write and maintain scripts to automate system tasks, reduce manual intervention, and improve IT responsiveness
  • Partner with engineering teams to streamline build/test workflows and integrate with CI/CD and high-performance compute resources
  • Maintain documentation and tooling for systems administration, configuration management, and disaster recovery

Ideal Candidate

  • Hands-on experience managing IT systems in fast-paced or startup-like environments
  • Substantial experience with macOS, Windows, and Linux—and comfortable learning the others
  • Experience supporting identity systems and SaaS tools (Okta, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, etc.)
  • Exposure to and some hands-on experience with cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP—including servers, networking, security, and databases
  • Working knowledge of networking, VPNs, and firewall configuration
  • Exposure to scripting (Python, bash, PowerShell, etc.) and an eagerness to automate
  • Excellent troubleshooting instincts—able to quickly isolate issues across hardware, software, or networking layers
  • Clear communicator who collaborates well with technical and non-technical teammates alike
  • High technical curiosity—you enjoy jumping into unfamiliar systems and learning fast
  • Able to independently execute IT systems engineering tasks, including system design, deployment, and maintenance, ensuring reliable performance with minimal oversight

What Will Set You Apart

  • Strong context-switching skills—you’re comfortable jumping between long-term projects and in-the-moment support
  • Empathy for users is key. Build environments that are great for users, but also be willing to quickly switch to helping users with their in-the-minute issue so they can get unblocked and return to their work
  • Experience managing identity systems at scale, including group structures and security policies
  • Exposure to DNS, certificate management, or managing domain names across distributed environments
  • You’ve worked closely with vendors to escalate issues and improve tool performance
  • Experience supporting technical teams in aerospace, manufacturing, or similarly complex environments
  • Passion for aviation, advanced technology, or enabling world-class engineering teams to move fast
