At Boom, we’re designing and building the world’s fastest airliner—powered by the first civil supersonic turbofan in history.  In order to do this, we will need to leverage the state of the art in high-performance materials, and manage numerous high value supplier relationships.

In this role, you’ll apply deep technical knowledge of metallurgy, manufacturing & program management to help bring Symphony—our supersonic engine—to life. You’ll be at the center of the action, managing the procurement of special process titanium and nickel superalloy engine components and partnering with suppliers, engineers, and operations to drive toward first flight.

Role Overview

  • Manage the procurement of special process titanium & nickel superalloy engine components, including forgings, castings, and other critical hardware
  • Own supplier engagement from RFQ through delivery—ensuring technical requirements, lead times, and quality standards are met
  • Translate complex metallurgical and manufacturing processes into clear program plans with tight milestones
  • Work closely with engineering teams to align component readiness with engine test and build schedules
  • Identify and mitigate risks across the supply chain, especially in areas involving long-lead raw materials and special processes (e.g., heat treat, HIP, NDT)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with specialty suppliers—acting as both technical partner and program driver
  • Surface and solve cross-functional challenges related to material availability, manufacturing capability, and certification

The Ideal Candidate

  • A background in materials science, metallurgy, or mechanical engineering
  • Hands-on experience with high-temperature alloys (nickel-based preferred) and familiarity with aerospace manufacturing processes
  • A proven track record of owning component supplier relationships
  • Strong technical intuition—you can quickly understand how a casting spec, forging flow, or heat treat process maps to a timeline or risk
  • Program management chops—you keep the train moving and people aligned, even in the presence of ambiguity
  • Familiarity with AS9100, NADCAP, or similar aerospace quality systems
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting
  • Excels in a high-energy, independent, and challenging work environment

What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience managing procurement and development of nickel superalloy components for gas turbine engines
  • Deep understanding of special processes like investment casting, HIP, NDT, and heat treatment
  • Strong network within the aerospace materials and manufacturing supply base
  • Excitement about joining a fast-paced startup environment and helping build an engine team from the ground up

Compensation

The Base Salary Range for this position is $149,000 - $188,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees.
