Senior Engineer, Software DSBC
POSITION PROFILE
Technical professional who serves as the critical bridge between the Information Development team, Product Engineering, and Development for high-speed continuous feed inkjet printers. You'll be instrumental in bridging the knowledge gap between our technical writers and engineering teams, directly improving the quality of documentation that customers and field engineers rely on daily.
This role combines hands-on technical investigation with strong communication skills to translate complex printer system knowledge into actionable insights for technical writers. The engineer will regularly work in the lab environment to build deep product expertise, acting as the team's "eyes and ears" on printer technology and corrective actions to resolve issues.
Works under normal supervision of management, and under the general guidance of more senior professionals, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including Product Engineering, Development, and Information Development. This position offers a path to Advisory Engineering roles as domain expertise develops.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as the primary technical liaison between Information Development, Product Engineering, and Development teams.
Investigates and reverse-engineers complex printer systems to develop deep understanding of product functionality and behavior.
Translates technical findings into clear documentation and guidance for technical writers.
Works regularly in the lab environment to stay current on printer technology, field-reported issues and problem resolutions.
Provides input and recommendations on how to improve service documentation based on real-world findings.
Facilitates efficient communication flow between field engineers, development teams, and information development.
Leverages AI tools and modern technologies to improve research efficiency and documentation quality.
Contributes to project planning within the team and collaborates on cross-functional initiatives.
Recommends solutions to technical issues that impact documentation accuracy and completeness.
Accountable for completion of technical objectives on schedule and within cost and quality objectives.
Documents own work and shares knowledge proactively with the team.
Positively and actively supports changing business needs.
Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Certifications)
Required:
BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field required.
Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze complex electromechanical systems.
2-4 years of relevant experience.
Experience with product engineering, reverse engineering, or technical troubleshooting.
Experience working with global engineering and development teams, including flexibility for occasional meetings outside standard business hours.
Preferred:
Background in printing technology, imaging systems, or related industrial equipment.
Working knowledge of technical documentation tools and languages including DITA, SGML, Oxygen, CCMS, and static site generators to effectively collaborate with technical writers.
Familiarity with parts databases, wiring diagrams, assembly documentation, and engineering schematics.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across engineering, field support, and documentation teams.
