The Opportunity

DAT is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Web, in Denver, CO and will have the opportunity to directly shape the architecture, quality, and long-term direction of our web experience. You'll bridge the gap between engineering and design, bringing deep technical craft to our web stack while partnering closely with design and marketing to deliver fast, flexible, and beautifully built web experiences. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who thrives on translating design intent into performant, maintainable code, takes deep ownership of the full web lifecycle, and is energized by delivering high-impact work across our web presence.

What You’ll Do

  • Create Beautiful Web Experiences: Design, build, and maintain highly performant, accessible, and responsive website improvements using Next.js and React, integrating with headless CMS via REST and GraphQL. You’ll also be at the forefront of architecting a greenfield web experience, doing exciting work alongside designers, researchers, marketers, and fellow engineers to bring DAT’s visual story to life.
  • Build Partnerships: Partner closely with product designers, researchers, and marketing stakeholders. You will be the liaison who translates brand, content, and campaign requirements into polished, production-ready web experiences.
  • Improve via Rapid Prototyping & Experimentation: Build prototypes to explore design and product concepts, and implement A/B tests to inform and validate data-informed decisions about the web experience.
  • Leverage Our Design System: Integrate and improve key UI components and design system elements, including long-term strategy for performance optimization, cross-browser compatibility, and accessibility standards.
  • Champion Quality: Champion a standard of quality by testing solutions fully, maintaining site integrity, and advocating for web implementation best practices.

The Skills and Experience You’ll Bring

  • Several years of experience in frontend and web development, with a track record of delivering high-quality work. You have proficiency in modern frontend stacks and the broader ecosystem, including build tooling, bundlers, performance optimization, and core web vitals.
  • Desire to work closely with a team of designers who are passionate about building web experiences that solve real problems for our customers.
  • A desire at this point in your career to build, drive change, and assume ownership. You will be one of two engineers crafting the future of our web experience and enjoy autonomy and recognizing opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and drive consensus on complex decisions.
  • Deep knowledge of Next.js and React, with hands-on experience building on headless CMS architectures.
  • Adaptability to AI-assisted workflows and processes, while also practicing informed discernment on the differences between slop and quality. Appetite to serve as a bridge-builder between design-created prototypes and what’s possible in production codebases.
  • Exposure to working with RESTful and GraphQL APIs and patterns for integrating complex frontend applications with content services.
Bonus Points If You Also Have
  • Proven experience leveraging and evolving component libraries or design systems used across multiple teams or products.
  • Experience partnering with Marketing or similar business stakeholders to deliver web experiences that support campaigns, content, and brand goals.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and A/B testing methodologies and tooling.
