Our employees rate SambaSafety as top-notch, with a rock-solid Top Rating on Glassdoor.

What You'll Do:

We are looking for a Senior Telematics Product Manager to own the strategy, roadmap, and execution of our telematics data platform and driver risk scoring products. This is a high-impact, end-to-end product ownership role sitting at the intersection of connected vehicle technology, fleet risk management, and InsurTech — and you will be responsible for translating complex data capabilities into products that deliver measurable outcomes for fleet operators, insurance carriers, and their shared customers.

You will define what we build, why we build it, and how it reaches the market all while ensuring our solutions meet the needs of our customers. You will work closely with customers, engineering, data science, design, sales, and commercial partners to ship products that are technically credible, commercially viable, and differentiated in a fast-moving market. This role requires someone equally comfortable interrogating a telematics event scoring, writing product requirements, and presenting a strategic roadmap to stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Product Strategy and Roadmap

  • Define and maintain a 12–24 month product roadmap for the telematics data platform and associated driver risk scoring capabilities, grounded in customer insight, market intelligence, and business priorities
  • Set clear product OKRs and success metrics, and hold yourself accountable to them — not just feature delivery
  • Make and communicate prioritization decisions transparently, including trade-offs between new capability, platform reliability, and technical debt
  • Identify build vs buy, and partner options and develop the business case for strategic product investment decisions

Platform and Data Product Development

  • Own the product vision for how telematics data is ingested, processed, normalized, scored, and surfaced — across hardware-agnostic, OBD, smartphone, and OEM-connected data sources
  • Drive API-first product thinking: define developer-facing APIs, webhooks, and data integrations that make telematics data accessible and actionable for enterprise fleet operators and insurance partners
  • Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to shape driver risk scoring — including composite risk indices, behavioral event weighting, and trip-level analytics — ensuring outputs are interpretable, defensible, and compliant
  • Champion platform scalability, data quality, and reliability as product-level concerns

Customer and Market Understanding

  • Conduct structured discovery with fleet risk managers, loss control professionals, insurance underwriters, and brokers to surface unmet needs and validate product hypotheses
  • Maintain awareness of the competitive landscape across fleet telematics (Samsara, Geotab, Lytx, Verizon Connect), InsurTech scoring (Cambridge Mobile Telematics, Octotelematics), and connected vehicle data platforms.

Go-to-Market and Commercial Execution

  • Partner with sales, marketing, and customer success to define go-to-market strategy for new product launches and feature releases — including packaging, pricing inputs, and partner enablement materials
  • Support enterprise and channel sales cycles by serving as the authoritative product voice — able to articulate telematics capability, commercial value, and differentiation with credibility
  • Define and manage partner integration requirements for telematics data providers, fleet management systems, and insurance core platform partners — owning the product layer of strategic partnerships
  • Track product-level revenue contribution, adoption rates, and retention metrics, using these to inform roadmap decisions and internal investment cases

Cross-functional Leadership

  • Lead planning, backlog refinement, and release management in collaboration with engineering and design — maintaining momentum without sacrificing quality or strategic coherence
  • Produce and maintain high-quality product artifacts: requirements off of discovery and framing, user stories, acceptance criteria, API specifications, and scoring logic documentation
  • Represent the product in executive reviews, partner briefings, and industry forums — communicating progress, strategy, and market context with clarity and confidence
  • Collaborate and support product colleagues

What You'll Need:

Essential

  • 5+ years of product management experience, with at least 2-3 years in a senior role
  • Excellent stakeholder management and customer communication skills — able to influence without authority across engineering, commercial, and executive audiences while always putting the customer first in proposals and decisions
  • Demonstrable domain expertise in one or more of: vehicle telematics, fleet risk management, usage-based insurance, and/or connected vehicle data
  • Strong technical fluency — able to engage credibly with engineering and data science teams on API architecture, data pipeline design, and scoring model logic, without needing to write the code yourself
  • Experience defining and launching API-first or data-as-a-product capabilities, including documentation, integration patterns, and partner-facing tooling
  • Proven ability to translate ambiguous market opportunities into structured product strategies, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes

Advantageous

  • Experience in the InsurTech or motor insurance value chain — underwriting, loss control, UBI, or claims analytics
  • Familiarity with driver risk scoring methodologies, including composite risk indices, motor vehicle record (MVR) integration, and telematics event classification
  • Understanding of OEM-connected vehicle data ecosystems and the evolving role of embedded telematics versus aftermarket and smartphone-based solutions
  • Exposure to AI/ML product development — particularly interpretable models in regulated use cases, ethical AI governance, and model explainability requirements
  • Experience building and managing third-party partnership product relationships, including contract-adjacent decisions on data licensing, SLAs, and integration standards
  • Awareness of emerging product considerations including EV fleet risk, ADAS data integration, and autonomous vehicle safety benchmarking
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical discipline; postgraduate qualification or MBA welcome but not required

Benefits and Perks:

  • Flexible and generous Paid Time Off and Paid Volunteer Days
  • 401k Employer Match
  • Healthcare Benefits
  • Up to 12 weeks paid time off for maternity leave based on tenure
  • Wellness & Tuition Reimbursement Options
  • Flexible Work Arrangements (remote friendly)
  • SambaSafety swag
