Who You Are

Be Curious
We ask questions, seek to understand others, and stay curious about the problems we solve. Curiosity fuels creativity and innovation - and helps us build better solutions.

Customer First
We put people at the center of what we do - listening with care, acting with empathy, and going the extra mile to support those we serve. Customer First means understanding the needs of anyone we impact - whether that’s a customer, a coworker, or an end user - and doing right by them.

Own the Outcome
We take initiative and do what it takes to deliver results. With resourcefulness and resolve, we overcome obstacles, follow through on our commitments, and hold ourselves accountable - because each of us is empowered to make an impact.

About Alchemer

Founded in 2006, Alchemer is a powerful survey and data insights platform that empowers business professionals to make informed decisions. As SaaS application software, it offers user-friendly data collection tools for understanding customers, markets, and employees in real time and communicating this information across an organization. It provides data insights in over 100 countries, with 50K new surveys created and 5M responses collected every week.

Alchemer has tremendous opportunity to continue this growth, based on current market size and the potential for more sophisticated product positioning and a robust sales and marketing engine. Details on Alchemer’s products and services can be found on our website (www.Alchemer.com).

What You Will Do

As the most senior individual contributor on Alchemer's analytics and data visualization products, you'll spend your days building, bringing the judgment and independence to figure out how a hard problem should be solved. This is a full-stack role, but with acknowledgement that “the stack” is so large these days, a bias towards front-end is perfectly okay: we want people who are well rounded, not simply domain experts in one specific framework or language. You'll work closely with engineering leadership and product managers on the direction for a product, then own getting it built well, while setting the technical standard other engineers work to.

How You Will Spend Your Days

  • Make major hands-on contributions to Alchemer's analytics products, including building new
services and interfaces, leading significant changes, and maintaining the existing portfolio.
Stability and quality are non-negotiable for systems customers depend on for reporting.
  • Contribute to architectural designs and systemic processes at a level beyond merely writing
code to build reliable, scalable, and durable products that can integrate with other Alchemer
    systems and platforms.
  • Take substantial initiatives from concept through to production, owning the technical
approach and adjusting it as the reality of a business operates.
  • Build and optimize the services, pipelines, and query paths behind the analytics products,
where correctness and performance at volume turn into multiplicative problems if unchecked.
  • Design and build APIs and embed surfaces meant to be consumed by others, including
internal teams, customers, and partners, where ease of use, simple design, and
    interoperability are key.
  • Build the front-end that users engage with, working with UX to produce experiences that hold
    up under real data volumes.
  • Work with product managers and subject matter experts to shape requirements into
something buildable, weighing trade-offs between usability, cost, and query performance.
  • Bring technical judgment to sprint and release planning, including a clear-eyed view of what
enhancements, bug fixes, and technical debt actually cost while knowing not all tech debt is
    inherently “bad.”
  • Build AI and ML capabilities into analytics products, including retrieval, natural-language
    query, and generated-insight features.
  • Use usage data, query telemetry, and customer feedback to find and fix performance
    bottlenecks.
  • Contribute to CI/CD processes that allow for smoother releases and increasing team and
    business confidence.
  • Identify and help resolve roadblocks impeding software development.
  • Mentor engineers, raise the bar on code review and design review, and share knowledge
rather than concentrate it. We donʼt like silos!
  • Consider the full lifecycle of what you build, from initial conception to launch, through
maintenance, all the way to sunsetting

What You Bring to this Role

  • You have at least 10 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably but not
as a requirement with significant depth in data-intensive or analytics applications.
  • You are well rounded across the stack, perhaps with your center of gravity on the front end,
and React in particular. Specialties are expected and welcome; nobody is equally strong
    everywhere.
  • Your breadth of experience matters more than your alignment with any particular set of
languages or tools. Solving varied problems in varied environments counts for more than a
résumé that matches our languages, frameworks, and tooling line for line.
  • You have a command of databases, data structures, query optimization, and data modeling.
  • You can reason about why a dashboard is slow and fix it at the right layer.
  • You have worked with or have a good familiarity with analytics, BI, or data visualization
platforms, whether integrating them, embedding them, or building alternatives to them.
  • You build front-ends for the expectations and considerations of users, being able to get into
the mind of a user rather than merely build an interface.
  • You believe in understanding why work is being done, not just implementing code and moving
to the next task. When you see a gap, ambiguity, or missing scenario, you raise it rather than
    build around it.
  • You have a desire for frequent if not continuous software releases rather than “big bang”
    releases.
  • You are deeply experienced with the full software development lifecycle, including application
code, unit/integration/automation testing, documentation, and performance and security
    engineering.
  • You work well with other engineers and are willing to spend your time making them better.
Mentorship, review, and knowledge sharing are part of the job, not a distraction from it.
  • You communicate and collaborate well across technical and non-technical, internal and
external, audiences. Your stakeholders are more than just engineers.
  • You have adopted AI tooling in your workflow, knowing how it can improve your own efficacy
but as another tool in your toolbox, not a substitute for genuine knowledge and experience.
    The Stack You'll Work In
Back-end: Python (primarily), TypeScript, PHP (legacy)
    Front-end: TypeScript with React
Data platforms: Databricks, Lakebase, PostgreSQL, MySQL, ThoughtSpot
    Cloud: AWS, Databricks
CI/CD: GitHub (primarily), Bitbucket and Jenkins (legacy)
