Job Description

AECOM has a position available for a Senior Electrical and I&C Designer to support our multi-disciplinary design team addressing the most challenging engineering tasks in power generation. AECOM's broad technical capabilities, global footprint and experience in executing large scale projects uniquely position us to lead in traditional steam, thermal power generation and advanced nuclear technologies.

This includes being a part of the first-of-a-kind program with AECOM partners advancing the innovative stellarator technology to the world.

For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

The successful candidate will have understanding and experience in electrical and instrumentation design and technology principles. She/he will be expected to work successfully within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. He/she will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and displays drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done with an excellent attention to detail.

The responsibilities of this role also include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Perform as the Electrical and I&C discipline CAD lead for projects of all sizes
  • Oversee the design and preparation of electrical and I&C deliverables, ensuring efficient facility design while addressing constructability, safety, and project constraints
  • Perform complex CAD tasks and coordinate the production of various drawings, while collaborating with team members to create an integrated digital project content and resolve interface issues.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineers and project managers to develop facility designs, generate deliverables and progress through all stages of design – feasibility through construction support.
  • Perform the role of lead discipline CAD designer on projects managing execution by maintaining task budgets, staffing plan and schedule updates.
  • Prepare bills of materials and quantity take offs
  • Utilize diverse data sources such as laser scans, vendor files, LiDAR surfaces, and survey points for project modeling, while managing survey and client data throughout the project lifecycle and demonstrating proficiency in coordinate systems and data transformation.
  • Contributes to business development activities and proposal development
  • Creating, updating, and implementing group specific standards
  • Ability to check and verify work prepared by peer/group
  • Participating in and presenting at meetings including those requiring occasional travel

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS + 6 years of relevant power or industrial experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the management of Common Data Environments including ProjectWise, BIM 360, ACC
  • Physical design experience for power generation or industrial facilities 
  • Adaptability and fervent curiosity in learning new software and applications
  • Experience utilizing and integrating data sets into 3D model (e.g. laser scans, LiDAR, etc.)
  • Experience in CadWorx, Revit, Solidworkx, ReCap, NX, AutoCAD Electrical, Elecdes·     
  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD Plant 3D   
  • Experience in SQL
  • Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks)
  • Field or construction experience
  • Proficient with electrical design layouts, fittings, and materials, along with a solid understanding
  • of field instruments, wiring, and control systems.
  • 5+ yrs experience as discipline CAD lead
  • Success in leading remote teams and/or high value centers
  • Strong experience leveraging laser scan or other data sets to inform design development
  • Knowledge of typical stakeholders and be able to anticipate data requests and expectations
  • Understanding of vendor documentation and it’s use as a reference and basis for assigned tasks
  • Demonstrated experience in participating complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry (incl safety) standards
