The Sr. Controls Deployment Engineer will own and lead the deployment, integration and commissioning of data center building automation controls systems, such as Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and custom customer monitoring solutions.
This role will drive quality by (1) recommending and enforcing controls and monitoring standards in new and existing data center projects; (2) manage 3rd-party vendors to ensure timely delivery of data center automated controls that meets ServerFarms technical and business requirements; (3) partner with construction, commissioning, operations and field engineering to finalize and implement Controls Normalization Plans ServerFarm’s data center fleet.
This role is pivotal in enhancing ServerFarm’s competitive edge through delivery of cutting-edge technology solutions that are aligned for Operations and business requirements and future growth.
Key Accountabilities
- Leads deployment of data center control systems, on time, with effective management of vendors during construction and L1-L5 commissioning phases of projects to ensure minimal defects at the point of Power and Facilities Hand-Off (PFHO). Documents the final validation of controls and monitoring systems’ performance, ensuring all criteria are met, verified as complete, accurate and ready for handover to operations and customers.
- Have deep knowledge of critical infrastructure, building operations, mechanical plant strategies, BMS/EPMS programming concepts, control diagrams, industrial HVAC, electrical line-ups, one-line diagrams, and complex environmental and electrical concepts.
- Develop plans for and provide over-sight of point-to-point verification, software and graphics testingto validate operability, compatibility and quality prior to fielding on-site.
- Provide QA/QC oversight of hardware installation, reviewing proposals and programming through the commissioning process
- Support commissioning testing to validate controls and monitoring settings, integration and operability of controls equipment with the overall constructed data center infrastructure systems.
- Ensures quality of systems performance and workmanship by support provided to partner teams, providing diagnosis and resolution of Loss of Visibility (LOV), Loss of Resilience (LOR), Large Scale Event (LSE), Critical Scale Event (CSE), and other operations impacting events within predefined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Recommends improvements for delivery of further initiatives to improve the efficiency of ServerFarm data center controls and monitoring systems and/or operational procedures.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or closely aligned engineering discipline, or commensurate industry experience or military experience in lieu of degree may be acceptable.
- 5+ years of experience in controls engineering, including programming development, start-up, and commissioning of critical systems.
- Control system integration: experience building unified automated control system for enterprise level clients, consolidating equipment and subsystems; hardware, software, networking products from multiple vendors.
- Control theory: experience with proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers.
- Industry standard programming: Experience with PLC or SCADA programming, and scripted programming languages
- Engineering documentation: ability to understand electrical diagrams, control diagrams, control networks schematics, control panel Bill of Materials (BOM), or control panel schematics
