Humana is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Corporate Accounting Operations team. Reporting to the Business Intelligence Lead, Corporate Accounting, this role is responsible for supporting accurate and timely financial reporting, with a primary focus on month-end close, intercompany accounting, mergers and acquisitions, and other accounting activities aligned with Humana’s close schedule.
This position plays a key role in maintaining a strong and sustainable control environment within a lean operating model. The Senior Accountant will execute and review critical accounting processes, including complex accounting and reporting activities that require technical accounting expertise, professional judgment, and strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP. The role also provides important oversight of work prepared by offshore team members to help ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information and support internal control requirements.
In addition to core accounting responsibilities, this position includes analytical support, ad hoc financial analysis, and project-based work aimed at improving reporting, processes, and decision-making across the organization. Key Responsibilities
- Support the month-end close process by preparing, reviewing, and analyzing journal entries, account reconciliations, and related financial information.
- Perform accounting activities related to eliminations, intercompany transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and other Corporate Accounting Operations responsibilities.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, statutory accounts, reports, and supporting documentation in accordance with required timelines and standards.
- Review and oversee accounting work prepared by offshore team members to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with internal controls.
- Conduct ad hoc analysis and support projects that improve reporting accuracy, process efficiency, and business insight.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to research accounting issues, resolve questions, and clearly communicate financial impacts.
- Exercise sound judgment in resolving moderately complex to complex accounting matters with limited direction.
- Help support an effective control environment and contribute to the team’s overall financial reporting obligations.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 5 or more years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using Power Platform tools such as Power BI, Power Automate, or Power Apps.
Preferred skills
- Prior SQL, Power Query, VBA, or other coding/automation experience.
- Experience in the health insurance industry.
- Month-end close experience.
- Previous experience with Databricks
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active pursuit of CPA certification.
Additional Information
You will report to a Business Intelligence Lead.
You will be an individual contributor in this role.
This role will not have any travel.
This role is fully remote within the US. For Applicants near a Humana office, this role will be hybrid.
