Specialty Benefits is an exciting & growing area within Employer & Individual at UnitedHealthcare. Specialty Benefits consists of Dental, Vision, Stop Loss and several other products. This role will support a recently transitioned block of Stop Loss business, as well as Dental and Vision, and will combine month-end close support with analytics to ensure financial accuracy & compliance.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:

• Research and investigate project data to confirm it aligns to accounting practices
• Maintain general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports
• Reconcile, analyze and review general ledger accounts in preparation for month end close
• Prepare journal entries and reviews accounting classifications, in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles
• Prepare documentation in support of external and internal audits
• Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations and interpretation
• Analyze and prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and statements of financial position
• Assist with or lead the month end quarterly end close process for assigned businesses or groups
• Performs work in a self-directed manner and works with less structured, more complex issues
• Serve as a resource to others

Positions in this function maintain general ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and reports. Performs account reconciliations and analyses, prepares journal entries and reviews accounting classifications, in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles. Analyzes and prepares financial statements, including balance sheets and statements of financial position. Involved in the monthly/quarterly 'close' process. Prepares documentation in support of external and internal audits. Supports capital project and testing needs.

Required Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, MIS or equivalent
• 1+ years of professional accounting experience
• Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statements
• Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Beginner to intermediate proficiency with SQL or similar languages
• Proven ability to assess and interpret customer needs and requirements
• Proven ability to identify solutions to non-standard requests and problems
• Proven ability to solve moderately complex problems and/or conducts moderately complex analyses

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $60,200 - $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
