Job Description

Position Summary 

The Competition Services Supervisor will lead daily operations of NASTAR public and private alpine racing in Snowmass along with supporting all operational aspects of competition-based events across the four mountains. This position will collaborate with and support the ASC Events & Partnerships, Snowmass Operations and Ski & Snowboard Schools teams in daily operations, events and in support of creating new race-related businesses. This leadership position plays an integral role in growing the culture of racing with ASC and the Roaring Fork Valley.  This position reports to the Ski & Snowboard School Managing Director.  

The salary range for this seasonal position is equivalent to $60,000 to $73,000 yearly. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience.

Essential Job Functions  

  • Daily setup, breakdown and maintenance of racecourses or event venues  
  • Communication and coordination with Snowmass Mountain Operations and Guest Services teams  
  • Organize, prioritize, and train their team to execute operational requirements based on divisional business goals, SOP’s, and end-of-season analysis  
  • Manage race department inventory and ordering processes to ensure supplies/equipment are in good working order and par is maintained  
  • Support Competition Services Director in financial evaluation and budgetary planning process  
  • Oversee assigned race events and race related programming operations to ASC standards and operating practices and manage expenses to budgetary expectations  
  • Manage aspects of events that require S3 support, such as slip crew or other shared staffing needs  
  • Coordinate private race events across the four mountains and coordinate with Mtn Operations for support as needed.   
  • Participate in planning, development and execution of ongoing and daily race operations, including NASTAR and Town Race Series.   
  • Actively seek and act on opportunities for business growth, in conjunction with the S3 and Events Management Team  
  • Acts as course/race official as requested for USSA / FIS sanctioned events   
  • Collaborate with other departments to plan, and organize operations and expand product knowledge and understanding as needed  
  • Develop and manage staffing plans in accordance with ASC employment requirements for specific areas of responsibility   
  • Lead employee recognition, disciplinary action and performance management efforts   
  • Participates in thorough end-of-season analysis of individual and departmental strengths and opportunities and proactively engage in planning for future seasons  
  • Other duties as assigned   

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements  

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 
  • 4 seasons in the winter sports industry required 
  • 2 seasons in a role within race and winter events experience required 
  • USSA/FIS race official certifications required  
  • College degree preferred  
  • Current, valid driver’s license  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  

  • Proficient computer skills including point of sale software, scheduling software, email, Microsoft products and other computer programs  
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures   
  • Basic industry terminology    
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members, and event staff  
  • Proficiency in skiing or snowboarding with the ability to maneuver on steep and variable terrain  
  • Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor conditions, including cold temperatures and heavy snowfall  
  • Ability to lead team members  
  • Ability to follow all safety policies and procedures and exercises caution when working   
  • Attention to detail to ensure proper course setup and maintenance throughout the event  
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions and event requirements  
  • Prior experience racing or working for a racing program helpful  
  • Snowmobile experience useful  
  • Advanced or above skiing/snowboarding skills  
  • Other language skills a plus, especially Spanish  

Additional Information

Work Environment & physical demands   

  • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time    
  • Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces   
  • Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance   
  • Locations will require an employee to ski or snowboard.
