Your Opportunity
We are seeking an Engineering Designer/Mechanical Technician to reside in our Denver, CO office. The successful candidate will be fully immersed in the Design team, translating engineering concepts into technical reality by creating design drawings for projects related to water treatment-conveyance, wastewater treatment, and facility buildings. The opportunity also includes interpreting complex process instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and transforming schematic engineering drawings into 3D models of piping, equipment and building layouts.
The Engineering Designer/Mechanical Technician will report to a Design Supervisor in the US Water Delivery. The Designer/Technician will also have a reporting relationship with the Project Manager or Project Technical Lead and Engineers when assigned to projects.
Your Key Responsibilities and Core Competencies
The key responsibilities for this position include:
- Conducts basic interpretations of drawings, industry standards and manuals as well as client and regulatory agencies’ standards and requirements.
- Applies knowledge of basic engineering concepts, principles, practices, and procedures for engineering design documents production.
- Uses appropriate technology and software (i.e. BIM and CAD among others) to prepare project deliverables and production tasks assigned by senior designer, project manager and engineers.
- Performs, under direct supervision, mechanical engineering-technology related design tasks on assigned projects, that may include drawings, discipline-specific calculations, reports, design criteria, and quality control documents.
- Works closely with engineers and designers and assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
- Supports engineering activities during Design Phase, Construction and Post-Construction
- Performs field work as directed by a supervisor. Field work may include construction site visits verifying design documents and observing completed construction for record drawing production.
The core competencies for this position include:
- Understanding and implementing basic knowledge of engineering such as hydraulics, thermodynamics, materials, structural loading, etc. and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
- Understanding of CAD modelling software (Revit, AutoCAD) and the use of it as a design production tool.
- Basic understanding of QA/QC practices in design document production and ability to conduct review of self-performed work.
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
- Ability to work on several projects or tasks during any given day on a consistent basis, with minimal supervision to complete the tasks.
- Business awareness and acumen: sound knowledge of project costs, time and resource availability.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make timely decisions.
- Engaged in multiple discipline communities for opportunities to share and learn.
- Must be able to manage time, be organized, and set priorities.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Well-developed understanding of engineering basic principles and general concepts of design processes and construction activities.
- Skills in using Autodesk 2D/3D design software; Revit, AutoCAD, etc. Revit MEP is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products.
- Must be a team player and able to work with a variety of personalities.
- Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within frequently changing priorities.
- Must be willing and able to take initiative when needed.
- Flexibility and self-driven to learn new skills.
- Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.
Education and Experience
- The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology from a recognized institution or equivalent in related field.
- CAD training certification.
