General Summary

As Manager, Sales, you will play a pivotal role for Alfred by leading a team of Account Executives (AEs), while directly managing your own book of business. This player-coach role blends sales leadership, strategy, and execution. You’ll drive increased revenues and market share for our products through the retail and wholesale channels—while coaching your team to do the same.

You'll bring structure, energy, and accountability to your team—fostering a culture of performance, discipline, and continuous improvement.

This role sits on our Sales team and reports directly to the CFO, who manages the Alfred and MakeMusic Sales teams. You will also collaborate closely with the Director of Sales & Success and the MakeMusic Studio team to drive software sales with the Alfred dealer network of customers.

Core Functions

  • Lead the Team – Manage, coach, and inspire your AE team to deliver exceptional sales results and achieve quota attainment. 
  • Drive Results – Own and improve strategies that increase sales, accelerate pipeline velocity, expand average deal size, and improve win rates.
  • Key Account Governance - Architect and oversee the strategic management of Top 100 accounts; foster executive-level relationships to ensure long-term retention, identify expansion opportunities, and secure high-value renewals.
  • Pipeline Forecasting – Own team pipeline tracking and forecasting in close partnership with sales leadership to ensure accurate projections and strategic planning.
  • Strategic Collaboration – Provide support and guidance to Alfred Customer Services and MakeMusic Studio teams, partnering closely with sales leadership on strategic goals. Partner cross-functionally with Marketing and Product to align GTM initiatives.
  • Market Focus – Develop and execute sales strategies that align with Alfred’s ICP and K-12 and private music education markets, positioning the platforms as essential for student and educator success.
  • Process Improvement – Refine sales playbooks, cadences, and reporting to drive consistency, efficiency, and accountability. Leverage data to improve sales cycle length, conversion rates, and territory performance.
  • Player-Coach Role – Balance leadership duties with hands-on work by owning and closing your own book of business. Step into customer and prospect conversations as needed to support your team and model best-in-class sales practices.
  • Operational Excellence – Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of pipeline, activities, and performance metrics using HubSpot (or equivalent CRM). Use data to inform team priorities and strategy.
  • Proactive Prospecting – Proactively engage with wholesale prospects to expand Alfred’s footprint and identify opportunities for new sales and cross-sell into MakeMusic Studio.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of sales experience, including owning a quota and closing new business.
  • 2+ years of experience leading or mentoring quota-carrying sales teams.
  • Deep understanding of music and music education in the K-12 market.
  • Experience working with independent music stores and music dealers.
  • A strong command of wholesale discount structures, tier-based pricing, MAP policy enforcement, inventory sell-through velocity.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and building scalable pipeline.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Metrics-driven; ability to create and hold teams accountable to meaningful KPIs and goals, instilling ownership and proactive communication.
  • Data and analytical expertise; ability to analyze pipeline, conversion rates, and deal velocity to improve forecasting accuracy and team performance.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, HubSpot (or equivalent CRM), and other sales tools.
  • Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Understanding of sales methodologies in addition to traditional account management.
  • Ability to perform basic analysis of customer health metrics and sell-through data.

Compensation

We are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The annual salary range for this role in Colorado is $91,151 - $151,919. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. In addition to base salary this position will be eligible for an attractive performance based variable compensation plan.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment that is well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned with adequate ventilation and a noise level that is usually moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and filing cabinets.
