Job Description
NLR’s Computational Science Center is currently seeking a Storage Engineer within our Center. In this role, the incumbent will install, configure, and support storage-related products (hardware and software) and services for advanced computing efforts. The primary focus of the storage engineering effort supports data intensive activities utilizing object storage, block storage, distributed file systems and cloud storage services. The center focuses on providing optimal solutions to high throughput, high volume data management capabilities. The position will help determine optimal hardware and software configurations and stay abreast of new technologies and techniques for storage services.
This is a hybrid position with at least 3 days a week onsite at NLR.

Basic QualificationsRelevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of principles, concepts and techniques in specific field. General knowledge of related IS disciplines. Strong leadership and project management skills. Skilled in analytical techniques, practices and problem solving. Advanced programming, design and analysis abilities with various computer software programs and information systems.Eligibility requirements: This position will require access to sensitive information, Government facilities, and/or Government information systems restricted to individuals with US citizenship. Additional Required Qualifications- Minimum 8 years of Experience supporting high-performance storage environments.
- Proven ability to design and implement secure, scalable, and performant infrastructure to support complex data pipelines and analysis tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues impacting data processing and analysis.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with researchers, research operations, analysts, and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to research and formulate hardware designs and act according to the decisions
- Solid foundation in Linux systems engineering, storage engineering, and data systems architecture
- Experience with Network Attached Storage solutions
- Experience with backup software
- Scripting languages such as Python, PERL, Bash
- Familiarity with Git and handling branches, merging, and conflict resolution
- Proficiency in configuration management/automation tools such as Ansible
- Exposure to HPC job schedulers (i.e. SLURM)
- Basic knowledge of InfiniBand
- A strong foundation in cloud native storage.
- Experience with any of the following high-performance filesystems Lustre, GPFS, BeeGFS, Ceph, DOAS, VAST, PNFS, or WEKAFS

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)Job Profile: IT Professional III / Annual Salary Range: $100,400 - $180,700NLR takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
