Conduct biorefinery process modeling and sustainability analyses focused on lignin valorization into fuels and chemicals. Use Aspen Plus and other modeling tools, perform statistical sensitivity or uncertainty analyses, integrate findings with experimental R&D, communicate scientific results, publish peer-reviewed research, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, chemists, and biologists.

Conduct large-scale transmission and distribution power-flow, dynamics, and contingency analyses; build and validate grid models; develop multi-model frameworks and analytical tools; and support utility planning and DER/IBR integration. Lead partner engagements, technical working groups, trainings, proposals, and research collaborations. Develops advanced geospatial and spatiotemporal models for energy generation siting, infrastructure planning, and large-load impacts. Responsibilities include spatial statistics, predictive modeling, optimization, uncertainty analysis, distributed computing, and integration of large datasets using Python and open-source Linux tools. The role leads DOE research projects, serves as a principal investigator or technical lead, manages teams and stakeholders, publishes findings, presents at conferences, develops proposals, and mentors junior researchers.

Conduct algae biotechnology research focused on biosynthetic production, carbon flux, metabolomics, and photosynthetic biomanufacturing. Design and execute LC/MS and GC/MS experiments, analyze physiological and biochemical data, develop genetic and photophysiology tools, and interpret results using statistical, bioinformatics, and machine learning methods. Publish peer-reviewed research, present findings, support proposals, collaborate on strain and process improvements, and mentor junior researchers and interns.

Support development of software and data infrastructure for autonomous thin-film semiconductor experimentation. Develop Python-based instrument control and lab automation, implement APIs and messaging for distributed instruments, enable real-time data exchange and provenance, assist integration/testing/deployment, and build monitoring, logging, and visualization tools while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Reviews technical and scientific information for national security classification concerns; applies DOE and federal classification guidance; supports the Classification Officer; trains and briefs derivative classifiers and cleared personnel; develops classification aids and technical training; mentors staff; and coordinates with DOE and federal agencies on novel information-protection issues.

Support operation and advancement of autonomous laser-integrated PFIB instrumentation. Postdoctoral research on reaction engineering for biomass fractionation and lignin-rich oil production. Design, build, and operate novel reactors, perform lignin oxidation catalysis and catalyst/process design, analyze products, publish results, and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to enable retrofit-compatible pulping and downstream separations.

Graduate intern will research uncertainty quantification and hallucination detection for multi-turn LLM-based scientific assistants, develop probing methods for internal representations, build evaluation pipelines on HPC/multi-GPU systems, run experiments across scientific domains, and produce research code, documentation, and publications.

Manage classified program compliance (PHYSEC, IA, PERSEC, OPSEC, COMSEC), supervise construction security staff and access control, review construction documentation, draft SOPs and emergency plans, investigate security violations, handle classified material control, liaise with DOE and customers, and train personnel. Requires active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and extensive SSO/CSSO experience.
