Independent Contractor, Graphic Designer, Creative Solutions - Publications
What You’ll Do
The Independent Contractor, Graphic Designer supporting Publications is responsible for developing creative materials for Vaniam Group companies and clients. This will include manuscript figures, scientific posters, PowerPoint slide decks, and other projects as decided by the creative team leadership, with opportunities to train in new deliverable types and skills. You have knowledge in how to prepare files for print or digital submissions. You also will be able to work independently with oversight and creative direction by the creative team leadership.
A Day in the Life
- Redraw and format figures for manuscripts or PowerPoint presentations while adhering to client and journal/congress requirements, using Adobe Illustrator
- Implement edits as requested by the client, internal scientific communications review, or editorial review, using Adobe Acrobat
- Format and enhance creative level of client deliverables
- Build scientific posters by transferring content from PowerPoint or Word, into Adobe InDesign, arranging into a proper layout and redrawing figures to fit within the congress specifications
- Implement edits to poster layouts as requested by the client, internal scientific communications review, or editorial review, using Adobe Acrobat
- Prepare files for print or digital submission, understanding various requirements for submissions
- Stay current with the latest trends and technology
- Other duties may be assigned to help drive deliverables within this role
What You Have
- Minimum: Undergraduate degree in Fine Arts or related field or equivalent graphic design experience required
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in the design industry; experience in scientific communications or publications design is preferred
- Knowledge of layout and graphics fundamentals, with an emphasis on the technical details
- The ability to arrange and format large amounts of content in not a lot of space, while using your design skills to ensure high quality visuals
- Advanced skill level in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat
- Basic skill level in Microsoft Office Products such as PowerPoint and Word
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accuracy
- Excellent problem-solving skills including the ability to analyze information skillfully, develop alternative solutions, and work well in group problem-solving solutions
- Ability to prioritize and plan personal work activities, use time efficiently, and communicate with manager when projects may be at risk for delay
- Working knowledge of brand development and creative process
- Excellent interpersonal, organization, verbal, and written communication skills
