Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a talented Frontend Engineer to help develop next-generation applications supporting critical defense and national security missions. In this role, you will design and build highly responsive, intuitive user interfaces that help operators and decision-makers understand complex operational environments. You will work with large data streams, interactive 2D and 3D maps, real-time situational awareness tools, and other data-intensive visualizations.

This is an opportunity to solve challenging frontend engineering problems while contributing to software that supports important missions.

This is a hybrid role based in Tampa, FL. The selected candidate must be local and able to report to the customer site as needed.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Shape frontend architecture: Help define and evolve the architecture of complex applications using React, TypeScript, and modern state management patterns.
  • Build data-rich interfaces: Develop intuitive, reusable user interface components for real-time data analysis, visualization, and mission-focused workflows.
  • Develop mapping and visualization tools: Implement high-performance 2D and 3D mapping components using technologies such as OpenLayers, CesiumJS, WebGL, or comparable frameworks.
  • Work with large datasets: Create interfaces capable of rendering and interacting with substantial geospatial datasets, real-time feeds, and multiple map layers.
  • Optimize application performance: Identify and resolve rendering bottlenecks, memory issues, network inefficiencies, and interaction latency, including on hardware-constrained systems.
  • Support data-intensive workflows: Use asynchronous programming, web workers, and efficient data-processing techniques to manage demanding visualization and analysis requirements.
  • Integrate secure services: Collaborate with backend and DevOps engineers to integrate APIs, cloud-native services, authentication mechanisms, and secure data pipelines.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with UX and UI designers, product owners, systems engineers, and mission users to create effective and intuitive experiences.
  • Maintain engineering quality: Write maintainable, well-tested code; participate in technical design discussions and code reviews; and promote frontend standards and best practices.
  • Mentor and support teammates: Help mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture.
  • Contribute to technical direction: Evaluate tools and technologies, identify opportunities for improvement, and help guide the evolution of the application platform.

Required Clearance:

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a heavy emphasis on React and modern frontend ecosystem tools. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Significant professional experience developing frontend applications with React and TypeScript.
  • Strong knowledge of modern JavaScript, including ES6 and later, asynchronous programming, and contemporary frontend development practices.
  • Experience designing and implementing reusable, maintainable user interface components.
  • Experience working with geospatial data, mapping technologies, or data visualization, including one or more of the following: GeoJSON, KML, Raster or vector tiles, Coordinate reference systems, Geospatial APIs, OpenLayers, CesiumJS, MapLibre, Mapbox, or comparable libraries
  • Experience diagnosing and improving browser performance, including rendering, memory usage, network activity, and application responsiveness.
  • Experience developing automated tests using tools such as Jest, Cypress, Playwright, or comparable frameworks.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a mission-focused and highly collaborative engineering environment.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

  • Experience deploying applications in secure or regulated cloud environments, including AWS GovCloud.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native application deployment.
  • Experience supporting DoD cybersecurity or compliance requirements, including applicable Impact Level requirements.
  • Experience developing 2D or 3D geospatial visualizations using CesiumJS, Three.js, WebGL, or related technologies.
  • Experience developing custom WebGL shaders or optimizing GPU-accelerated visualizations.
  • Experience processing real-time or streaming data.
