The Executive Vice President, Engineering for Space, Defense, & National Security is responsible for leading and scaling the engineering organization to deliver high-quality, reliable products aligned with business goals and growth priorities.
The position reports to the President, Space, Defense & National Security and is based in the Long Beach, CA OR Denver Metro Area, CO area. This role is onsite.
In this role, the essential functions are:
- Set and drive the strategic vision, technical direction, and organizational roadmap for the engineering function, aligning with overall business objectives and growth plans.
- Lead, scale, and develop a high-performing engineering organization, including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and organizational design.
- Own management of teams working on end-to-end product lifecycle from concept through development, testing, certification, delivery, and post-deployment support.
- Establish and enforce engineering excellence across system design, development processes, quality standards, and operational execution.
- Oversee product architecture and ensure scalability, reliability, and long-term sustainability of all systems and products.
- Define and manage technical roadmaps, ensuring alignment with company priorities, customer needs, and market opportunities.
- Partner with executive leadership to support strategic initiatives, business development efforts, and major program pursuits.
- Ensure strong cross-functional collaboration across engineering, operations, finance, and business teams to drive execution and alignment.
- Drive proactive risk management across programs, identifying and mitigating technical, schedule, and cost risks.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, transparency, and continuous improvement across the engineering organization throughout various locations.

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- 15+ years of experience in engineering within aerospace, defense, or a comparable high-technology industry.
- 10+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams and complex technical programs.
- Experience with modern engineering methodologies.
- Proven experience leading product development across the full lifecycle from concept through delivery.
- Strong systems-level thinking and understanding of engineering principles and product development processes.
- Demonstrated ability to scale engineering teams in fast-growing or complex environments.
- Experience managing cross-functional initiatives and aligning technical execution with business strategy.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to influence at the executive level.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a relevant technical discipline.
- Experience in senior leadership roles within engineering organizations.
- Experience driving engineering process improvements and organizational transformation initiatives.
- Familiarity with governmental and commercial enterprise and quality management systems.
- Experience working with government and commercial customers on complex, regulated programs, including interaction with regulatory or certification bodies.
Travel Requirements:
- Ability to travel up to 35%, including the possibility of overnights within our various company locations.
The good faith base salary range for this role is $290,000 - $340,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
