Senior Director, Payments — Remote (US)

EverCommerce (Nasdaq: EVCM) is a leading service commerce platform providing vertically tailored, integrated SaaS solutions that help more than 745,000 global service-based businesses accelerate growth, streamline operations, and increase retention. Across EverPro, EverHealth, and EverWell, EverCommerce provides business management software, embedded payment acceptance, and customer engagement solutions designed around the needs of service-based businesses.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Director, Payments to help shape and execute the next phase of growth for EverCommerce’s payments business. This is a senior, highly cross-functional leadership role responsible for translating our payments strategy into products, capabilities, and commercial outcomes across the EverCommerce portfolio. The Senior Director will work across product, engineering, go-to-market, customer experience, operations, data, and our individual software businesses to identify opportunities, establish priorities, and drive execution.

The ideal candidate combines deep payments expertise with strong product and commercial instincts. You understand how payments create value within vertical SaaS platforms and can move comfortably between strategy and execution—from identifying a market opportunity or customer problem to defining the solution, aligning stakeholders, launching the capability, and measuring the resulting business impact.

You will bring significant experience in integrated and embedded payments, SaaS, APIs, payment facilitation, merchant acquiring, and the broader payments ecosystem. Just as importantly, you will be a strong business leader who can simplify complex problems, influence across organizational boundaries, and build alignment around the opportunities that matter most.

What You’ll Do

Drive Payments Strategy and Growth

  • Help define and execute the payments strategy across EverCommerce, with a focus on sustainable revenue growth, customer value, and competitive differentiation.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities across the payments customer lifecycle, including enablement, merchant acquisition and onboarding, activation, retention, wallet share, pricing, and monetization.
  • Translate market, customer, competitive, and financial insights into clear priorities and executable plans.
  • Own business outcomes associated with payments initiatives, including adoption, processing volume, revenue, retention, customer experience, and profitability.
  • Develop business cases and recommendations for new products, capabilities, partnerships, and investments.

Lead Payments Product and Commercialization

  • Define customer, merchant, partner, and developer needs and translate them into differentiated payments capabilities.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering to establish roadmaps and prioritize investments based on customer and business value.
  • Drive the evolution and adoption of key payments capabilities, including card and ACH acceptance, recurring payments, invoicing, surcharging, mobile and in-person payments, onboarding, APIs, and other emerging payment experiences.
  • Drive embedded finance solution strategy and growth including instant payouts, merchant lending, consumer financing, and issuing
  • Help shape the future of PaySimple and EverCommerce’s broader payments platform, including how payments capabilities are delivered across internal SaaS solutions and external partners.
  • Ensure new capabilities have clear commercialization, adoption, and measurement plans—not simply technical launch plans.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, and Operations to improve adoption and utilization of both new and existing payments capabilities.

Represent the Customer and the Market

  • Develop a deep understanding of merchants, SaaS partners, developers, and end customers and the problems they are trying to solve.
  • Establish effective feedback loops with customers, partners, sales teams, customer experience teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the competitive landscape and emerging trends across embedded payments, merchant acquiring, vertical SaaS, payment facilitation, and financial technology.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to identify opportunities, validate hypotheses, and make informed investment decisions.
  • Understands and can drive ecommerce and card present acceptance in EMEA, ANZ, and LATAM markets.

Drive Cross-Functional Execution

  • Lead complex initiatives that span Product, Engineering, Operations, Risk, Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, Finance, and Data.
  • Create clarity around objectives, ownership, milestones, dependencies, and success measures.
  • Build alignment across business units and functional teams that may have different priorities and operating models.
  • Identify execution risks and remove barriers that prevent teams from delivering customer and business outcomes.
  • Establish clear metrics and operating rhythms to track progress and hold teams accountable for results.

Build and Develop High-Performing Teams

  • Lead, coach, and develop payments and product talent, creating an environment characterized by high standards, strong ownership, curiosity, and collaboration.
  • Attract and develop high-performing team members as the payments organization evolves.
  • Set clear expectations and create accountability for both individual and team outcomes.
  • Foster strong partnerships across Product, Engineering, Commercial, Operations, and other functional organizations.

What You’ll Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in payments, fintech, SaaS, product management, or related businesses, with significant experience in integrated or embedded payments.
  • Deep knowledge of the payments ecosystem, including merchant acquiring, processors, gateways, payment facilitators, card networks, ACH, and payments risk.
  • Demonstrated experience building, launching, commercializing, or scaling payments products and capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS and API-based products and the role payments can play within vertical software platforms.
  • Proven ability to translate strategy into execution and measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience driving revenue growth, adoption, retention, processing volume, or other commercial payments metrics.
  • Strong financial and analytical capabilities, including experience developing business cases and understanding the economic drivers of a payments business.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives in matrixed organizations.
  • Strong executive communication skills and the ability to communicate complex payments concepts clearly to technical, commercial, and executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive decisions without relying solely on organizational authority.
  • Strong talent assessment, coaching, and team-development capabilities.
  • High intellectual curiosity and a willingness to dive deeply into customer problems, data, economics, technology, and operational processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with payment facilitation, embedded payments, or payments-as-a-service models.
  • Experience serving SMB customers and/or vertical SaaS businesses.
  • Experience with merchant onboarding, underwriting, risk, fraud, and payments operations.
  • Experience working with payment processors, acquiring banks, card networks, and other financial-services partners.
  • Experience managing or influencing P&L performance.
  • Familiarity with modern product, analytics, and delivery tools.

What Success Looks Like

  • Success in this role means turning payments strategy into measurable results. You will help EverCommerce:
  • Increase adoption and penetration of payments across our software portfolio.
  • Improve merchant activation, retention, and wallet share.
  • Deliver payments experiences that create measurable value for our customers.
  • Bring new payments capabilities to market faster and with stronger commercial adoption.
  • Make better investment decisions using customer, market, operational, and financial data.
  • Build greater alignment between our payments organization and the SaaS businesses we support.
  • Create a scalable payments platform and operating model capable of supporting EverCommerce’s long-term growth.
