Position Overview

Autodesk Technical Advisory is seeking a talented, technically strong, and business-focused Director of Embedded Engineering to establish and lead a new customer-facing engineering capability. Reporting to the VP, Technical Advisory, you will be responsible for building and leading Autodesk's Embedded Engineering organization, working alongside customers to discover, build, and operationalize AI-enabled Design & Make workflows that deliver measurable business outcomes.

Embedded Engineering is a new product-adjacent capability designed to bridge the gap between customer innovation, production deployment, and Autodesk Product and Platform learning. The team will work deeply within customer environments to connect Autodesk technology with broader enterprise systems, industrialize AI-enabled workflows, and convert frontline customer learning into reusable reference architectures, connectors, agents, patterns, and product insight.

You must be passionate about building new technical capabilities, solving ambiguous customer problems, and developing high-performing engineering teams. The successful candidate is a technical and organizational leader who can operate equally well with senior customer executives, engineering teams, Product and Platform leaders, and Autodesk go-to-market organizations. You bring a proven track record of leading highly technical teams, delivering complex solutions, building strong cross-functional partnerships, and translating customer needs into scalable technical and business outcomes.

This role will be instrumental in establishing the operating model, engineering culture, customer engagement methodology, and scale path for Embedded Engineering. The initial operating model includes multiple embedded engineering pods supporting customer accounts, with future expansion based on demonstrated customer outcomes, product and platform impact, reusable value, and operating economics.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead the Embedded Engineering organization, including the operating model, team structure, engineering culture, technical standards, talent strategy, and customer engagement methodology

  • Lead a team of highly experienced customer-facing engineers and technical leads responsible for discovering, building, integrating, and operationalizing production-grade AI-enabled Design & Make workflows

  • Own the portfolio of Embedded Engineering engagements, partnering with Sales, Customer Success, and Technical Advisory leadership to identify, qualify, prioritize, and allocate engineering capacity to Autodesk’s most strategically important customer opportunities

  • Be the accountable leader for technical quality, production readiness, customer outcomes, and reusable value generated through Embedded Engineering engagements. Establish the operating standard that every engagement has a product sponsor, produces a reusable artifact, and begins with IP classification

  • Develop and execute strategic plans that ensure Embedded Engineering delivers measurable customer outcomes while creating reusable Autodesk Product, Platform, and Technical Advisory advantages. Define and maintain the success measures for the capability, including platform ARR lift, agents and patterns deployed, product features shipped from field input, and account NRR, and ensure engagements deepen Autodesk data centrality

  • Become a strategic partner to Product and Platform leadership by translating frontline customer experience into requirements, capability gaps, roadmap insight, and opportunities for product and platform acceleration

  • Build the organization as an AInative operating model in which senior members design and deploy the agents, automations, and reusable systems that scale the practice itself, developing operating models that combine people and agents

  • Build organizational alignment across Technical Advisory, Product, Platform, Sales, Customer Success, Legal, Security, and Finance, establishing governance for customer engagement, production deployment, intellectual property, reusable assets, and commercial decisions. The proposed operating model specifically anticipates Product/Platform governance and legal guardrails

  • Responsible for recruiting, mentoring, coaching, performance management, and development of Embedded Engineering talent, while shaping the longer-term staffing, commercial, and scale model for the capability

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading highly technical software engineering, applied engineering, solution engineering, platform engineering, AI engineering, or comparable customer-facing engineering organizations

  • Proven experience building or significantly evolving a technical organization, capability, or operating model within a technology company

  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, cloud architecture, APIs, enterprise integrations, data platforms, and production application development

  • Demonstrated knowledge of AI and emerging agentic technologies, including architecture, data, governance, security, IP ownership models, customer access guardrails and operational considerations required to move solutions from prototype to production

  • Established track record of accountability for complex customer-facing technical outcomes, including the ability to move from ambiguous business problems through architecture, development, deployment, adoption, and measurable value

  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and inspire highly accomplished technical professionals

  • Experience owning a business case or investment plan for a new capability, including phased economics and defensible success measures

  • Domain breadth across AECO or Manufacturing, or Media & Entertainment design and make workflows

  • (Preferred) Autodesk platform fluency (Autodesk Platform Solutions, Forma, Fusion, AEC Data Model and Autodesk Product API capabilities

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and business judgment, with the ability to simplify complex technical topics, operate effectively in ambiguity, and balance customer needs, technical feasibility, strategic Autodesk value, and longer-term product or platform opportunity
