General Purpose:
The Data Manager is a strategic and technically proficient leader responsible for overseeing the firm's data management. The Data Manager drives the firm's digital transformation by evolving its data infrastructure, advancing analytics capabilities, and transforming raw data into a strategic asset. This position plays a critical role in fostering a data-driven culture that supports informed decision-making, operational efficiency, and greater value for clients and attorneys.
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:
Data Management Strategy & Governance:
- Develop, implement, and champion a firm-wide data governance framework, including policies, standards, and procedures for data quality, security, and lifecycle management.
- Establish and lead a data stewardship council to ensure cross-functional alignment on data definitions, usage, and standards.
- Work with the firm’s Information Security, Records, and Risk Management teams to document unstructured data management. Ensure data handling and storage practices comply with client requirements, industry regulations (e.g., GDPR), and firm policies.
Modern Analytics & Data Science:
- Manage and advise on the data ingestion process into various systems for analysis.
- Deliver and provide strategic guidance on meaningful reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Provide insights and analysis on firm performance, client matter profitability, attorney productivity, and business development opportunities.
- Support the evaluation and adoption of data science and AI tools to address business needs.
- Data Platform & Engineering Oversight:
- Oversee the architecture, design, and maintenance of the firm’s data infrastructure, evolving it into a modern, flexible, and scalable capability that supports GenAI.
- Manage the development of robust data pipelines and workflows for efficient data collection, storage, and analysis.
- Ensure the integrity, reliability, and performance of the firm's data warehouse and associated ETL/ELT processes.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance the firm's data and analytics capabilities, with a focus on cloud-based solutions.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work with IT Leadership to define the roadmap, aligning it with the strategic goals of the IT department and the firm.
- Serve as a primary liaison between business units and technical teams to ensure the data strategy aligns with enterprise goals.
- Manage project priorities, timelines, and resources to ensure the timely delivery of data initiatives using agile methodologies.
- Communicate complex data concepts and insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders, including firm leadership, in a clear and actionable manner.
- Perform additional duties and tasks assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to supporting the firm’s overall objectives.

Job Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certification):
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in data management, business intelligence, or data analytics.
- Expert proficiency in SQL and hands-on experience with modern BI and data visualization platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Tableau).
- Strong understanding of modern data architecture, including data warehousing, data lakes, ETL/ELT development, and data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks).
- Proven ability to drive organizational change.
- Proven ability to translate business needs into actionable insights and analytics.
- Ability to communicate complex data topics and comfortable to present insights.
- Must possess strong discretion, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.
- Familiarity with data science concepts and programming languages like Python or R is preferred.
- Experience with AI/ML concepts and their practical application in a business environment is preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, preferred.
- Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with the data structures of core law firm applications (e.g., Financial/Practice Management systems like Elite 3E or Aderant; Document Management Systems like iManage; CRM platforms) is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee must have the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of at least twenty-five (25) pounds; have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on a computer and/or related office equipment; speak clearly and concisely so listeners can understand; and regularly understand the speech of another person.

Compensation:
Holland & Hart offers of employment take into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. The Colorado salary range is $94,380.00 to $157,307.30. The Washington DC salary range is $103,822.82 to $173,038.03. A discretionary bonus may be available based upon performance.
