Job Description

This 10-week internship program, beginning in June, offers a set hourly rate of $41.50 an hour. 

 

With Fannie Mae’s 10-week (June 2026 - August 2026) paid internship program you will be empowered to drive change, lead with creativity, own your career, and make a difference. As a Technology Program Intern, you enjoy the challenge of solving technical problems, and you thrive in environments where you can collaborate with other engineers. Through hands-on experience and interaction with some of the greatest technology teams in the industry, you will gain experience and understanding in producing solutions to meet our customers’ needs.   

 

As a valued colleague on our team, you may contribute to designing, producing, testing, or implementing software, technology, or processes, as well as contribute to creating and maintaining IT architecture, cloud-based systems, data infrastructure, data analytics platforms, and securing against cyber security threats. Our interns collaborate with senior staff to help implement modern technologies and maintain tools using industry standard best practices. This opportunity will allow you to apply your fundamental knowledge of a process-driven approach in designing solutions for our customers and internal partners 

 

As an intern, you will be assigned to a team from one of the functions below within Fannie Mae’s Chief Information Office:   

  • Chief Information Office: The CIO accelerates the enterprise’s technology transformation initiatives, enables comprehensive technology engagement with business partners, and defines the next horizon of technology priorities. CIO delivers a consistent approach for the alignment of technology to business priorities and communication across technology and business stakeholders. CIO coordinates across the entire technology stack to improve services and is responsible for Fannie Mae’s technology assets, cyber security, enterprise data assets, and implementation of digital solutions that enable the business and deliver value for its customers. 

  • Chief Data Office: Responsible for creating a business-focused data strategy, driving strategic insights, customer-centric innovation, and measurable value for the business and the industry. This includes helping solve borrower and lender challenges through data, AI/ML, and other tools, driving efficiency with our data, and governing data usage. 

  • Chief Strategy and Transformation Office: Leads the implementation of the COO strategy and supports the execution of our corporate priorities by aligning initiatives, championing continuous improvement, and modernizing our technology stack.

  • Data Ingestion (Kinesis, Redshift, RDS) 

  • Data Governance, Policy Development & Implementation 

  • Data Analysis 

 

Examples of intern tasks and projects include:   

  • Producing clean, efficient software solutions to meet customer needs 

  • Integrating software components and third-party applications 

  • Providing support to production applications, troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading existing software 

  • Recommending and executing improvements to both the software and development process 

  • Creating scalable, automated solutions to support business needs 

  • Gathering and evaluate user feedback 

  • Writing and maintaining tests to ensure solutions are compatible and retain stability 

  • Managing Data platforms and tools, monitoring production logs, analyzing data to determine root cause, and coordinating with users to triage issues 

  • Supporting data protection and governance, ensuring sensitive data is governed throughout the technology ecosystem and prevent data loss 

  • Create and maintain architecture diagrams for key software applications 

  • Design and maintain JIRA service desks  

 

There are 45 openings for this position, which will be based in our Reston, VA (Reston Town Center) and Plano, TX (Granite Park) offices.  

 

Qualifications 

 

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM 

 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship 

  • Academic achievement (preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher) 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Rising senior enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program (2027 graduation date) 

  • Computer Sciences and Engineering majors are preferred. Other technical majors will be considered based on a candidate’s technical experience and/or aptitude. 

  • Understanding software development and programming language such as Java, JavaScript, C++, or Python 

  • Familiarity with various technical frameworks and Agile development methodologies 

  • Experience with databases, software design and development in a test-driven environment  

  • Strong analytical background 

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to contribute to a team atmosphere 

  • Self-starter, strong business acumen, and results focused 

  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written
