WordPress Developer
The opportunity
Ntara is looking for a WordPress Developer. The ideal candidate will have strong experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins, working with modern PHP standards, and integrating WordPress with external systems. Ntara needs a team player willing to collaborate cross-functionally across multiple departments to deliver high‑quality digital experiences for our roster of clients.
What you’ll do
- Develop, maintain, and optimize custom WordPress themes and plugins
- Implement integrations between WordPress and third-party systems (APIs, CRMs, marketing platforms, etc.)
- Build performance-focused, SEO-friendly, and accessible front‑end experiences
- Translate design files (Figma, XD, Sketch) into responsive WordPress layouts
- Perform requirements gathering and implement technical specifications
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve platform issues
- Provide maintenance, updates, and enhancements to existing WordPress sites
- Collaborate with designers, project managers, and other developers to deliver high-quality solutions
What you need to succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of professional WordPress development experience
- Strong PHP development skills (preferably PHP 7/8)
- Experience building custom themes (from scratch) using modern standards
- Experience developing custom plugins and extending WordPress core functionality
- Familiarity with WordPress Gutenberg/Block Editor and custom block development
- Experience with MySQL and database-driven‑ applications
- Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, Sass, and modern JavaScript
- Proficiency with version control systems (GIT)
- Understanding of security best practices for WordPress
- Experience working with REST APIs and webhook-based integrations
- Comfortable managing billable and non‑billable hours in a consulting environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to prioritize incoming requests across multiple teams
Knowledge & understanding of
- PHP, WordPress Core
- Gutenberg Block Editor & ACF (Advanced Custom Fields)
- JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks such as jQuery, Vue.js, React, or similar
- WordPress hosting platforms (e.g., WP Engine, etc.)
- SEO-friendly‑ development, schema, and performance optimization
- cPanel, Linux environments, and server configurations
- Knowledge of Web Accessibility Standards (WCAG 2+ A, AA)
- Build tools such as Webpack, Vite, or Gulp
- Microsoft Office products
Bonus points
- Experience with WPCLI
- Experience with full-site editing (FSE) and block‑based theme architecture
- Experience with WooCommerce customization
- Strong debugging experience, including ability to read logs and decompile/minify code
- Experience integrating WordPress with enterprise systems (PIM, DAM, ERP, CRM)
- Experience with Cloudinary, Bynder, or other DAM integrations
- Ability to multitask and manage several projects at once
- Experience with CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions, GitLab, Bitbucket Pipelines)

- Experience with headless WordPress architectures (React, Next.js, Vue, or similar)
