Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Focus on the Family has nearly 700 employees who work to achieve the mission of enriching the lives of families, engaging the culture, advocating for life and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The work is meaningful, the culture is rewarding, and the purpose is eternal.

The Web Designer and SEO Specialist position exists to design, build, and maintain high-quality digital experiences for one or more Focus on the Family content brand areas. Working closely with the assigned Marketing Manager, this role translates campaign goals, content priorities, and brand requirements into functional, responsive, and high-performing web pages and digital content experiences across the ministry’s WordPress environment. This role bridges creative design, technical execution, and search optimization. The Web Designer and SEO Specialist builds and maintains landing pages, publishes and formats digital content, improves search visibility, supports website performance, and helps ensure brand consistency, usability, and discoverability across digital properties. For multi-brand assignments, the Web Designer and SEO Specialist balances competing web requests and priorities to effectively support each brand’s publishing and campaign cadence.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Designs, builds, and maintains responsive landing pages and web content for assigned brand areas using WordPress and related tools, following best practices for usability, accessibility, and performance

Uses the organization’s shared design system/component library to ensure visual and functional consistency with the broader site

Implements pages and features that meet the organization’s performance budgets and Core Web Vitals standards

Ensures new pages/features are properly instrumented for tracking per the organization’s data-layer standards, in partnership with the other web developers and web designers and data/reporting team

Follows established technical SEO and AI-discoverability practices when building or updating content pages, partnering with the marketing team’s SEO/GEO specialists on content-level needs

Implements and manages experimentation on department-owned pages — A/B and multivariate testing on campaign pages, CTAs, conversion paths, and personalized experiences — using the organization’s designated testing/personalization platform to identify constituent needs, friction points, and opportunities to improve navigation, comprehension, engagement, conversion, and satisfaction

Sets up and manages multi-armed bandit (“king of the hill”) testing where appropriate, so better-performing treatments automatically receive an increasing share of traffic over time, up to becoming the default experience

Ensures every campaign, product page, and conversion path launches with a testing/optimization plan by default

Partners with Marketing Cloud Personalization lead to implement personalized experiences and ensure they are properly tested for performance

Monitors and reports test results and treatment performance for department-owned pages, feeding learnings into future builds

Participates in the organization’s link/page monitoring process; resolve flagged issues within [Department]’s pages promptly

Supports content and marketing teams with hands-on execution of landing pages, campaign pages, and product pages, including video-first content presentation

Brings department-specific priorities and technical needs into the Web Developer’s cross-team coordination process (sprint planning, RFCs)

Participates in code/technical reviews with cross team web developers to maintain architectural consistency across the matrixed team

Troubleshoots and resolves day-to-day technical issues on department-owned pages

Builds functional pages and templates from wireframes, mockups, or campaign requirements, ensuring alignment with brand standards and user experience expectations

Implements and maintains front-end web functionality, interactive features, and page components using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web technologies

Supports content personalization, gated content access, and user authentication experiences where applicable

Conducts quality assurance through cross-browser, cross-device, and mobile testing, correcting issues directly or coordinating with appropriate technical stakeholders as needed

Optimizes landing pages, articles, and other digital content for search visibility and discoverability by applying current SEO and GEO best practices

Research keywords, search intent, metadata, headings, schema, and other on-page optimization elements to improve organic performance

Monitors search rankings, traffic trends, and content performance for assigned brand areas and recommends technical and content improvements

Improves website speed, functionality, and reliability through image optimization, performance enhancements, plugin management, and related web maintenance practices

Publishes and formats articles, reviews, and other digital content in WordPress, ensuring clean rendering and alignment with brand and editorial standards

Builds, configures, and maintains web forms and related integrations to support accurate data capture, lead flow, and campaign effectiveness

Research, tests, configures, and maintains plugins, tools, and web features that improve site functionality, reliability, and conversion performance

Maintains version control and development workflow practices appropriate to assigned web projects and updates

Provides subject matter expertise and administrative support for WordPress and related digital tools used by assigned brands

Creates and maintains documentation, training resources, and support materials for webpage development, content publishing, and troubleshooting procedures

Stays current with WordPress updates, SEO and GEO trends, security practices, accessibility standards, and relevant digital technologies, and provides recommendations to the assigned Brand Marketer and stakeholders as appropriate

Processes webpage redirects, creates QR codes, and completes other technical web support tasks needed for campaign and content execution

For assignments supporting multiple brands, balances and prioritizes competing web requests to support publishing schedules, campaign timing, and organizational priorities

WordPress Development:

Independently builds, configures, tests, deploys, and maintains WordPress pages, templates, components, and features supporting department campaigns, products, content, and initiatives.

Develops and customizes WordPress themes, templates, blocks, patterns, custom post types, taxonomies, and approved plugins using established organizational standards.

Uses the organization’s shared design system and approved WordPress components whenever appropriate, avoiding unnecessary duplication or department-specific solutions.

Translates approved designs, wireframes, and requirements into responsive, accessible, and maintainable WordPress experiences using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and established development patterns.

Configures page layouts, forms, media, metadata, redirects, and reusable content elements while preserving content quality, technical SEO, accessibility, and website performance.

Follows established source-control, code-review, testing, staging, release, documentation, and post-deployment validation processes.

Tests WordPress changes for functionality, responsive behavior, browser compatibility, accessibility, analytics, technical SEO, and regression issues before release.

Troubleshoots and resolves routine WordPress issues involving templates, content display, forms, plugins, browser behavior, performance, and department-owned pages.

Evaluates requested plugins and third-party scripts against established security, privacy, accessibility, performance, and maintainability standards, escalating approval decisions when required.

Follows established practices for WordPress core, theme, plugin, and dependency maintenance; coordinate significant updates or production risks with the Lead Web Developer and other technical teams.

Identifies gaps in existing components, templates, or development standards and propose reusable improvements to the Corporate Web Developer/UI/UX rather than creating isolated solutions.

Documents significant configurations, customizations, dependencies, and implementation decisions so work can be supported and maintained across the organization.

Supports content creators and marketing partners in the effective use of approved WordPress templates, components, and publishing practices.

Escalates architectural questions, security concerns, significant performance issues, and proposed exceptions to established standards to the Corporate Web Developer/ UI/UX
