About Nevoya:

Nevoya is North America's leading next-generation electric trucking carrier, transforming logistics through AI-native operations and relentless customer focus. The company builds and uses proprietary technology to deliver zero-emissions carrier services to Fortune 500 shippers with superior economics and service to legacy diesel operators. The company has operations in California and Texas, and is backed by globally-renowned investors including Lowercarbon Capital.

About The Role:

Nevoya is building the infrastructure that will power the next generation of commercial freight, and we're growing fast. As we scale, we need an operator who can bring structure, clarity, and execution to the functions that keep the business running. That's where you come in.

As VP of Operations, you'll report directly to the CEO and own the internal business functions that enable Nevoya to move quickly without breaking things. That includes HR, finance, payroll, legal, compliance, and executive support. This is a high-ownership role that sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, and you'll be the person leadership turns to when something needs to get built, fixed, or scaled.

This is not a purely strategic seat. You'll inherit some existing team members and processes, and you'll also be expected to identify gaps and build out what's missing. The ideal candidate has a track record of operating across multiple functions at once, a bias toward action, and the organizational instincts to keep a fast-moving company on solid footing.

What You'll Do:

  • Own and oversee day-to-day operations across HR, finance, payroll, legal and executive support

  • Serve as a key thought partner to the CEO on organizational health, resource allocation, and internal operations strategy

  • Manage and develop a cross-functional team spanning multiple disciplines, with additional headcount to be added as the business scales

  • Oversee payroll operations ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a smooth employee experience

  • Support financial operations including budget tracking, vendor management, and internal reporting

  • Dig into the financials directly, from budgets and forecasts to the line-item detail, rather than relying solely on others to interpret the numbers

  • Own financial reporting and analysis, using the numbers to surface issues and guide decisions

  • Roll up your sleeves on day-to-day finance operations, staying close enough to the detail to catch what others might miss

  • Lead people operations, including onboarding, benefits administration, HR policy, and regulatory compliance

  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel, coordinating on contracts, employment matters, regulatory questions, and any litigation or risk-related issues

  • Collaborate with outside legal partners to ensure the business stays ahead of compliance requirements, particularly in the transportation and freight space

  • Manage and support executive assistants, ensuring leadership bandwidth is protected and day-to-day logistics run smoothly

  • Build and refine internal systems and processes that can scale alongside the company

  • Identify operational gaps and implement solutions before they become problems

  • Serve as a cross-functional escalation point for operational issues across departments

  • Partner with department heads to ensure their operational needs are met and resources are appropriately allocated

What You'll Bring To The Table:

  • Proven experience leading or overseeing multiple business functions simultaneously, including at least two of the following: HR, Finance or Operations

  • Strong people leadership skills with experience managing and developing cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated ability to operate at both a strategic and tactical level without losing momentum in either direction

  • High comfort level in a startup or high-growth environment where priorities shift and ambiguity is the norm

  • Strong understanding of financial fundamentals and the judgment to know when something in the numbers does not add up

  • Comfortability rolling up your sleeves to work directly with budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting

  • Solid working knowledge of employment law, compliance requirements, and contract management basics

  • Experience managing external legal counsel and coordinating across multiple outside partners

  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills, particularly when information is incomplete or timelines are tight

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience building or improving internal systems and processes from the ground up

  • Familiarity with tools like Rippling, Gusto, or similar HR, payroll, and finance platforms

Desired Experience:

  • Prior experience at a Series A through Series C startup, particularly one undergoing rapid headcount growth

  • Background in operations at a logistics, transportation, or hardware-forward company

  • Experience overseeing or working alongside in-house legal counsel or outside legal partners

  • Experience supporting or directly managing an executive support function

At Nevoya, we believe diverse teams build better solutions.
