Upstate Coin & Gold is seeking a deeply technical, commercially minded technology leader to help shape the next chapter of our growth. As we expand, diversify, and invest in technology, this leader will build the systems, capabilities, and team that help us stay ahead. The opportunity: scale the technology behind a growing precious metals business, accelerate new products and services, and turn our ambition for industry technology leadership into a widening competitive advantage.

This opportunity is particularly well suited for an accomplished Senior Director ready to step into a Vice President role, or a VP who remains close to the technology and the work. Prior VP experience is not required. We value technical credibility, commercial judgment, execution discipline, and exceptional communication and collaboration. You should be equally effective leading engineers, partnering with executives, and working with stakeholders throughout the company.

The role

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead a multidisciplinary technology team of approximately 15–20 employees and own our complete technology environment: PlatformGold®, software development, product execution, data, AI and automation, AWS, NetSuite, Salesforce, enterprise applications, integrations, cybersecurity, and all company IT, systems, networks, hardware, and end-user technology.

The CEO sets strategic, product, and innovation direction. You provide candid technical advice and turn that direction into reliable, scalable solutions and measurable business results. Your scope will expand as the company grows and diversifies.

This is an in-office position, not remote or hybrid, based primarily at our Centennial headquarters. Expect approximately six business days each month in Boulder, plus periodic travel to our Fayetteville, New York office, other company and partner locations, and relevant conferences.

What you’ll deliver
  • Technical leadership with real depth. Stay close to architecture, code, cloud infrastructure, APIs, and data. Work alongside engineers on complex decisions and problems without becoming the primary developer or a bottleneck.
  • Business value and delivery velocity. Focus resources on transformative, well-supported opportunities. Understand full project costs, budgets, capacity, opportunity cost, and cost of delay; simplify, defer, or stop lower-value work and defend priorities constructively with stakeholders.
  • Accountable execution. Set credible scope, budgets, milestones, and delivery commitments. Deliver on time or early and at or below approved budgets, surfacing risks early and measuring outcomes after launch. Value engineer faster, simpler, more economical solutions without compromising essential quality or controls.
  • A stronger technology team. Recruit, coach, and develop strong talent and future leaders. Set clear ownership, address performance, build succession and backup coverage, and keep the team’s skills and practices current as technology changes.
  • Dependable customer and employee technology. Advance PlatformGold® and its APIs, where usability, speed, pricing and data accuracy, and reliability matter. Own enterprise systems, integrations, cybersecurity, IT support, hardware, continuity, and recovery across the company.
  • A growing technology advantage. Evaluate and adopt useful advances in AI, automation, and engineering practices. Build reusable capabilities for new business lines, assess technology implications of partnerships or acquisitions under consideration, and track delivery, reliability, customer outcomes, and technology economics.
Qualifications
  • Typically 12+ years of progressive technical experience and 5+ years of increasing leadership responsibility, including substantial firsthand engineering or architecture experience and recent technical involvement.
  • Readiness to lead a 15–20-person multidisciplinary technology team, supported by experience developing technical leaders and delivering business-critical systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of modern software engineering, AWS, APIs, databases, CI/CD, testing, observability, security, enterprise applications, and IT. Experience with NetSuite and Salesforce, or comparable ERP and CRM platforms, is valuable.
  • Practical familiarity with AI-assisted development, LLMs, and automation, plus a demonstrated habit of learning and helping teams adopt better tools and methods.
  • Evidence of commercial judgment, value engineering, disciplined budgeting, and delivery—not just technical expertise.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration: clear explanations, attentive listening, constructive disagreement, and the ability to build trust and alignment at every level. Low ego, high standards, and strong follow-through.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience. Leadership capability and results matter more than title history.
Total rewards

$220,000–$255,000 base salary, based on experience and qualifications, plus an annual performance bonus opportunity. Benefits include up to a 6% 401(k) company match; employer-paid profit-sharing and cash balance plans; medical, dental, vision, and Employee Assistance plans; HSA and FSA options; company-paid short- and long-term disability, life, and accidental death and dismemberment coverage; supplemental critical illness, accident, hospitalization, and pet coverage; PTO and paid holidays; and professional development opportunities. Benefits are subject to plan terms and eligibility.
