ABOUT THE JOB

The Vice President, Taft-Hartley Liaison is a senior relationship-management role responsible for the health, retention, and growth of the firm's union and Taft-Hartley client portfolio. This role serves as a trusted, senior-level point of contact for trustees, fund administrators, and plan sponsors, and works in close partnership with the Practice Leader, regional service teams, and the Client Liaison to protect existing revenue while identifying and advancing new growth opportunities within the current client base. The VP also maintains a current, ground-level view of the labor and Taft-Hartley market and builds relationships with the consultants, TPAs, Fund attorneys and Fund personnel who influence client decisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as a senior relationship owner for a defined set of current Taft-Hartley clients, with particular focus on high-revenue and high-potential accounts.
  • Maintain regular, proactive contact with trustees and fund leadership to understand evolving business needs, satisfaction, and emerging issues before they become retention risks.
  • Partner with regional reps and the practice leaders to ensure service commitments are being met and that renewal readiness begins at least a year ahead of contract dates.
  • Provide visibility on strategic accounts, stepping in on escalations or sensitive relationship matters and coordinate with the appropriate internal teams.

Market Awareness

  • Track industry, regulatory, and labor-market developments relevant to Taft-Hartley plans and translate them into client-facing insight and internal talking points.
  • Monitor activity and positioning of competitors and peer providers within the Taft-Hartley benefits space.
  • Contribute industry-specific content and perspective to the team's podcast, internal/external newsletters, and conference presence.
  • Represent the practice at industry events and conferences to stay current on trends and maintain visibility with the broader labor benefits community.

Consultant & Connector Relationships

  • Build and maintain relationships with consultants, TPAs, fund attorneys, and other intermediaries who influence Taft-Hartley plan decisions.
  • Act as a connector between these third parties and the internal team, ensuring the practice is positioned favorably when opportunities arise.
  • Coordinate with the Practice Leader on consultant-facing strategy, pricing consistency, and joint positioning for larger or multi-region opportunities.

Growth & Expansion

  • Identify and create an internal strategy on expansion revenue opportunities within the existing client base, distinct from net-new business development.
  • Work with teammates to prioritize accounts by revenue size and expansion potential, not solely by account count.
  • Partner with the Solutions Consultant and Practice leadership to shape proposals and pipeline strategy for expansion opportunities.
  • Track and report on expansion pipeline and outcomes against the practice's overall growth goals.
Cross-Functional Partnership

This role works closely with the Practice Leader on large-scale deals and renewal strategy, with the three regional sales/service reps on account-level execution, with the Client Liaison on relationship touchpoints and event coverage, and with the Business Manager, Events Coordinator, and Solutions Consultant on pipeline hygiene, event planning, and proposal development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of experience in labor/Taft-Hartley benefits, Taft-Hartley fund administration, employee benefits consulting, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated track record managing senior-level client and trustee relationships, including renewal and expansion outcomes.
  • Existing network of, or demonstrated ability to build, relationships with consultants, TPAs, and fund attorneys serving Taft-Hartley plans.
  • Strong working knowledge of the labor/union benefits market, including regulatory and industry trends.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to visit clients, attend industry conferences, and support regional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the practice externally at a senior level.
Success Measures
  • Retention rate and revenue retained across the assigned Taft-Hartley client portfolio.
  • Expansion revenue generated within existing clients.
  • Strength and breadth of active consultant/connector relationships.
  • Renewal readiness — accounts on track a year or more ahead of contract dates.
  • Contribution to market-awareness content and conference/industry visibility.
