Objective

The Vice President of Data is a mission-critical executive role responsible for leading Mixbook’s functional data organization. This leader will architect a clear, scalable data strategy that drives decision-making, unlocks customer insights, and ensures the integrity, governance, and performance of Mixbook’s data systems, making our data unified and integrated.

Reporting to the CEO, this leader will work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to ensure that data is not just collected, but trusted, actionable, and deeply embedded in how Mixbook operates and grows.

This is not a legacy function. It’s a greenfield opportunity to define how data shows up at Mixbook - from modern infrastructure and analytics to predictive modeling and compliance - while creating the visibility and velocity that turns data into a competitive edge.

About You

You are a hands-on, visionary data leader who thrives in building from the ground up. With deep expertise in Data Science and Analytics, fluency in data engineering, and a track record of turning data into measurable business wins, you see data as a service to the organization. You’re equal parts architect and operator—scrappy in the early stages, scaling teams and capabilities over time—while automating workflows, enabling self-serve analytics, and fostering trust across every corner of the business. You lead with zero politics, mentor future leaders, and embrace emerging AI tools to keep the organization ahead of the curve.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  1. Build and Lead the Data Organization: Design the structure, operating model, and roadmap for Mixbook’s functional data team including analytics, data science, and data governance, and hire, develop, and lead a high-performing team.
  2. Define and Operationalize Data Strategy: Establish and execute a data strategy that aligns with Mixbook’s growth goals and product roadmap, ensuring the right architecture, tools, and processes are in place to deliver trusted data at scale.
  3. Drive Business Intelligence and Insights: Partner with executive stakeholders to define key metrics, unlock business insights, and improve visibility into customer behavior, funnel performance, revenue growth, LTV, CAC, and operational efficiency.
  4. Establish Data Governance and Compliance Standards: Develop policies and systems to safeguard data quality, access, retention, and regulatory compliance (eg, GDPR, CPRA). Lead implementation of a scalable governance framework across teams.
  5. Enable Predictive Modeling and Experimentation: Apply statistical modeling and machine learning techniques to develop forecasting models and predictive analytics that guide product, marketing, and customer decisions.
  6. Partner Cross-Functionally to Drive Impact: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Marketing to embed data strategy into product development, experimentation, financial forecasting, and campaign design.
  7. Ensure Data Infrastructure Performance and Scalability: Influence decisions on architecture, tooling, and engineering standards to support data availability, speed, and security in both production and analytical environments.
  8. Promote a Culture of Data Fluency and Curiosity: Uplift data literacy and ownership across Mixbook by making data more accessible, trustworthy, and actionable for stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  9. Drive innovation through AI and emerging technologies: Actively explore, test, and integrate modern AI tools into data products, analytics workflows, and business processes to enhance decision-making and accelerate outcomes.
Key Skills
  • Data Strategy Leadership: Proven ability to architect, communicate, and execute a bold, business-aligned data vision in smaller, high-growth environments.
  • Executive Influence: Adept at framing data insights for C-level audiences and driving strategic decisions through trusted analytics.
  • Technical Acumen: Deep knowledge of modern data infrastructure (eg, Redshift, dbt, Airflow, Looker), ETL pipelines, governance systems, and cloud-based environments.
  • Analytics and Data Science Expertise: Strong mastery of BI, statistical modeling, machine learning, and experimentation frameworks.
  • Data Governance and Privacy Knowledge: Understanding of compliance frameworks (eg, GDPR, CCPA), data lifecycle management, and privacy-by-design principles.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Ability to translate technical data concepts into business implications and influence without authority.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Demonstrated success mentoring and developing data professionals into senior leaders and directors.
  • Operational Fluency: Comfort operating with limited historical data, ambiguous business needs, and evolving product-market signals.
  • Hands-on builder mentality: Experienced starting with small teams and limited resources, then scaling to a high-performing organization.
Competencies + Experience
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in data, analytics, and data science roles, including 5+ years leading data organizations at the VP level.
  • Prior experience in consumer tech, DTC, or eCommerce preferred. Experience operating in global, remote, or fast-scaling environments is a plus.
  • Track record of influencing product, engineering, marketing, and executive teams through data-backed decision-making.
  • Experience automating data workflows and enabling self-service analytics across the organization.
  • Experience standing up company-wide data governance and privacy frameworks, especially those touching customer data and regulatory requirements.
  • Passion for making data a strategic business asset, not just a back-office function.
  • Already be experimenting with modern AI tools and be eager to expand their application within the organization.
  • Capable of delivering personally in the early stages, then delegating effectively as the team grows.
