Description
Jump is transforming the live sports experience with the only end-to-end fan engagement platform built specifically for sports teams and venues. By focusing on aligned incentives between teams and fans, our platform unifies ticketing, merchandise, and game day operations - creating a smoother, more fan-friendly experience.
Founded in 2021 by e-commerce innovator Marc Lore, MLB legend Alex Rodriguez, and entrepreneur Jordy Leiser, we’ve raised $60 million from top investors including Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six and Forerunner Ventures. Our platform powers teams across the NBA, WNBA, and NWSL helping them boost ticket sales and deliver innovative fan experiences.
We’re a remote-first team driven by core values - begin and build with trust, play like the underdog, win as a team, and do your thing. If you’re collaborative, adaptable, and eager to shape the future of live sports, Jump is the place for you.
The Role
We’re looking for a Technical Lead to help define and scale the technical direction of our consumer-facing platform while raising the bar for engineering quality, execution speed, and AI-native development practices.
As the Technical Lead, you’ll be the primary technical leader for the consumer pod - working cross functionally to shape architecture, make high-leverage technical decisions, and ensure we consistently ship high-quality consumer experiences. You’ll operate across a modern TypeScript stack, making pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, scalability, maintainability, and user experience as the product and organization evolve.
You’ll be expected to stay deeply hands-on, set a high bar for engineering excellence, and actively shape how the team builds software - including how we use AI to fundamentally increase engineering velocity and quality.
What You’ll Do
Own and evolve the technical direction of the consumer platform, setting long-term architectural vision while making pragmatic, day-to-day technical decisions
Make high-leverage architectural decisions across a modern TypeScript ecosystem, balancing speed, scalability, product quality, and long-term maintainability
Serve as the technical “north star” for the pod through design reviews, code reviews, and deep technical guidance
Stay deeply hands-on in the codebase, contributing to complex features, debugging production issues, and driving system design work end-to-end
Partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to shape roadmaps, challenge assumptions, and translate ambiguous problems into clear technical direction
Raise the bar for engineering quality across performance, reliability, testing strategy, observability, and developer experience
Actively mentor engineers by modeling strong engineering judgment
Define and operationalize AI-assisted engineering workflows that meaningfully increase team velocity (not just individual productivity), using tools like Cursor, Codex, Claude, and others
Participate in hiring and interviewing, helping to maintain a high technical bar of the organization
Collaborate across engineering teams to influence shared systems, infrastructure, and cross-cutting platform decisions
What You’ll Bring
8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in modern full-stack web development
Proven track record of owning or significantly influencing architecture for consumer-facing web products at scale
Strong mastery of TypeScript, React, Node.js, and Next.js, with a bias toward building maintainable systems over short-term hacks
Experience building and scaling modern full-stack applications using GraphQL, Apollo, and AWS, with strong expertise in both relational and NoSQL databases including Postgres and DynamoDB.
Demonstrated ability to operate as a technical leader
Exceptional engineering judgment — able to make clear decisions in ambiguous spaces with incomplete information
Strong, hands-on coding ability with a willingness to stay close to the implementation
Experience scaling systems with real constraints around performance, reliability, and product velocity tradeoffs
Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence across engineering, product, and design
Deep, practical fluency with AI-assisted development — not experimentation, but real workflow integration that improves how teams ship software
A bias toward systems thinking, simplicity, and long-term maintainability over local optimization
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience working on high-traffic consumer products at scale
Prior experience mentoring Staff or Senior Staff engineers
Familiarity with modern observability, CI/CD, and developer productivity tooling
Attributes that will make you successful on our team
A strong desire to learn. You continually look for ways to build your skills.
Tenacity. You enjoy working on challenges that others can’t or don’t want to tackle and you aren’t afraid of failing fast in order to find better solutions.
Passion. You love using your technical skills to build products that solve real problems. You hold yourself to a high standard and help to elevate others as well.
Empathy. You thrive in an environment where everyone can truly be themselves. You understand that our differing life experiences influence who we are and how we show up, and these diverse perspectives enrich both our team and our product.
Customer-centric mindset. You can understand the problem to be solved and who we are solving it for.
Innovation: Passion for exploring and implementing AI technologies to enhance automation, optimize workflows, and drive innovation

Compensation
Compensation is something we don’t want our candidates or employees to worry about. Our goal is to offer competitive salaries that are regularly benchmarked against the market. The core tenets of our compensation philosophy are fairness and transparency.
We have established a standardized leveling framework based on job scope and responsibilities. The compensation package for each level is standard across all engineering roles. This means that every person at a certain level is paid the same as everyone else, regardless of their background, previous compensation, location, or any other factor.
The compensation for this role is $210,000 and includes a generous equity package.
Application
Some candidates may see the requirements and feel unsure that they match all the criteria. We encourage you to apply! There's a good chance you have important skills that we have not stated.
