Duties

Revenue Recognition, WIP & Technical Accounting

  • Own GAAP-compliant revenue recognition under ASC 606 for construction contracts, including percentage-of-completion measurement, contract modifications, and variable consideration.
  • Prepare the monthly WIP schedule, including cost-to-complete estimates, over- and under-billings, and gross margin variance by job, working directly with project managers to validate estimates and forecasts.
  • Deliver the WIP schedule and revenue recognition entries to the Controller by the close calendar deadline for posting and GL reconciliation, and present job-level fades, gains, and margin trends to the CFO and operations leadership each month.
  • Reconcile the WIP schedule to job cost and billing reports each month, resolving coding and billing discrepancies with project teams before close.
  • Prepare the WIP, contract asset and liability, and backlog schedules required by owners, lenders, sureties, and the outside audit or review team.
  • Support the Controller with the year-end audit or review and with lender and surety reporting, including supporting schedules and contract-related financial statement disclosures.
  • Evaluate and document the GAAP treatment of leases (ASC 842), equipment financing, and other significant transactions.
  • Help design, document, and test internal controls over financial reporting and compliance, maintaining documentation sufficient to withstand owner, lender, surety, and third-party audits, and identify and support improvements to the close and reporting process in partnership with the Controller.

Month-End Close Support

  • Prepare monthly equipment costing entries allocating equipment costs to jobs, and reconcile equipment cost recovery to actual equipment expense.
  • Prepare monthly fixed asset addition, disposal, and depreciation entries and maintain the fixed asset roll forward, coordinating with the Asset Manager.
  • Reconcile the balance sheet accounts tied to this role's work each month, including contract assets and liabilities, fixed assets and accumulated depreciation, ROU assets and lease liabilities, and accrued tax liabilities.

  • Verify subcontractor and supplier compliance before AP releases payment, confirming waivers are received, insurance is current, and 1099/W-9 documentation is on file; AP holds payment until this sign-off.
