I'm Rom Paras, Senior Manager, Engineering at Teamworks. Our Athlete Management System is a core product in the Teamworks Performance category, and we're investing seriously in modernizing its architecture. This is a technical leadership role for someone who genuinely enjoys working in complex legacy systems — not just maintaining them, but charting a clear path to something better.

You'll own the modernization roadmap for AMS's backend, partnering closely with Platform and cross-product teams to make architectural decisions that improve performance, scalability, and maintainability for the long term.

The Role
  • Develop and execute a roadmap to modernize AMS's backend architecture, including upgrading from Java 8 to a current LTS version and transitioning toward containerized, cloud-native infrastructure

  • Optimize API workflows and evolve database architecture, improving PostgreSQL performance and query efficiency

  • Identify and implement asynchronous workflows, remove deprecated code, and modernize build systems

  • Partner with Platform Engineering to improve CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and deployment workflows using Terraform, Kubernetes, and Ansible

  • Drive cross-product technical impact by influencing architecture decisions and mentoring engineers across teams

  • Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems and maintain high system reliability

What I'm Looking ForWhat You Must Bring
  • 8+ years of professional backend engineering experience with demonstrated architectural ownership

  • Strong proficiency in Java, with deep experience working with legacy Java systems and modernizing them — plus proficiency in at least one additional language (Python, TypeScript, or C#)

  • Strong understanding of PostgreSQL, RESTful API design, and system performance optimization

  • Operational experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform, Kubernetes, or Ansible)

  • Experience designing scalable distributed systems and leading system design discussions

  • Ability to operate autonomously, influence technical direction, and collaborate across product lines

Even Better If
  • You have experience migrating monolithic architectures toward containerized or service-based systems

  • You have a background in data-intensive or secure environments

  • You believe in strong ownership and supporting your work in production environments during on-call assignments

  • You hold an advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field

Why This Role

AMS is a mission-critical product used by elite sports organizations around the world, and the modernization work ahead has real scope and real stakes. The person in this role will have architectural ownership over a system that matters, with the mandate and the cross-functional support to do it right.
