PlayStation also strives to create an inclusive environment that empowers employees and embraces diversity. We welcome and encourage everyone who has a passion and curiosity for innovation, technology, and play to explore our open positions and join our growing global team.

The PlayStation brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation.

Please note: this is a temporary position through our staffing partner DZX with an anticipated duration of 12 months.

Are you on a mission to create games that bond players together into deeply invested communities? Do you often find yourself working behind the scenes with online communities you are invested in? Are you often thinking about how in-person and online community events can have improved policies that create a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers and regulars alike?

We are seeking a pro-social values-aligned Staff Community Developer to join our team. You will work closely with the game directors and leads to set the direction for our community management strategy. In this role, you will build a pre-alpha community from the ground up via Discord and other social channels to grow a new multiplayer action game. We consider this specific community role to be more of a “Behind-the-Scenes Architect” (instead “The Spokesperson”) to design out-of-game systems and events that foster engagement, and draft policies that community members adopt to self-regulate conduct towards good sportsmanship. Most importantly, you will work with a fun, dedicated, and passionate team devoted to turning a creative dream into a new franchise at PlayStation.

We are looking for candidates who value joining a mission-focused team with a diverse set of backgrounds, experiences, interests, and viewpoints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive community management strategy (i.e., player acquisition, Discord server/channel design, moderator runbooks, etc)
  • Collaborate with project leaders to establish and enforce trust & safety protocols to ensure a kind environment for players (i.e., content moderation, code-of-conducts, governance for disruptive behavior, fraud, etc).
  • Anticipate and represent the state of the community by establishing a dialogue with our players and driving discussions in ways that reflect our studio values of pro-sociality and kindness
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) across community engagement channels, utilizing analytics to report on the impact of initiatives
  • Define and direct how player support functions to provide exceptional service (i.e., implement support runbooks and tools, manage vendors, communication best practices)

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience (7+ years preferred) in roles encompassing community management, player support, and/or trust and safety within the games industry
  • Proven and demonstrable experience in developing and managing Discord communities, including:
    • Demonstrable examples of implementing community guidelines and policies.
    • Demonstrable experience coordinating events and activities that foster community interaction.
    • Familiarity with social media platforms and their integration with Discord.
    • Proficiency in using Discord bots and other moderation tools to enhance community management.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively convey complex information to players and developers
  • Deep understanding of the live service game environment and the importance of community and fostering long-term player engagement and retention.
