Blue Canyon Technologies, RTX's small satellite manufacturer and mission services provider, is solving some of the toughest challenges in space. Our components and bus platforms have completed missions ranging from very-low Earth orbits to lunar and interplanetary journeys at a fraction of the cost of traditional space systems. We support premier defense, commercial and civil organizations including the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, NASA, MIT Lincoln Lab, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Colorado and more. Join our innovative and dynamic company as we build, test and operate the small spacecraft of the future.
As a Senior Technical Product Manager, you'll own the technical direction of one of BCT's product lines — ADCS, star trackers, reaction wheels, power, or another BCT product area — assigned based on business need and your background. These products have enabled hundreds of spacecraft and missions, and you'll own where yours goes next. You'll navigate between customers, engineering, the business, and the industry: shaping the roadmap, framing the tradeoffs, and helping teams converge when priorities compete and the right answer isn't obvious.
You'll lead through influence rather than authority by aligning stakeholders, setting priorities, and giving engineers the context they need to build well. You care about turning real industry needs and market signals into products that are relevant, repeatable, and valuable over time.
BCT's mission is to enable space missions that expand the frontiers of science and defense. This is a high-ownership, low-ceremony role, and your job is to make that mission real for the product line you lead. If you're the kind of person who meets an ambiguous problem with curiosity and then goes to work clearing the constraints in the way, you'll do well here.
Title: Sr. Technical Product Manager
Position Type: Full Time
Pay Range: $140,000 - $240,000
(Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
On-site position at our Boulder, CO location (work locations are subject to change based on business need).
Benefits:
- Employer sponsored health, dental, and vision benefits effective the first of the month following hire date
- Life insurance
- 401k (matching 4% with a minimum 5% contribution)
- Generous PTO (3 weeks of vacation + 3 floating holidays, 2 weeks of sick time, 7 paid holidays throughout the year) and parental leave
Job Responsibilities
- Own the product roadmap for your assigned line from concept through qualification and production, and influence the roadmaps of the components it depends on.
- Be the technical voice of the customer. Turn mission requirements, feedback, and market trends into clear priorities engineering can act on.
- Champion the product externally. Present improvements and roadmap at industry conferences, help shape technical papers, and bring customers the "art of the possible" — showing them what's now feasible and getting them excited about it.
- Lead customer technical exchanges and reviews. Communicate status, risk, and direction credibly to people who know the subject cold.
- Drive the early-phase decisions that shape a product — architecture, requirements, qualification scope, and the trade studies that balance performance, cost, manufacturability, and mission goals.
- Support proposals and investment planning. Contribute technical content, ROMs, schedules, and risk posture; help scope IRAD/CRAD opportunities tied to where the business is going.
- Keep the product line consistent. Provide technical guidance on interfaces, architecture, and design intent, and mentor Level 1/2 engineers along the way.
Required Qualifications
- A technical degree (Systems, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or similar) and 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong engineering fundamentals, with the ability to think through interactions between engineering domains — mechanical, electrical, software, thermal, and more.
- A track record of owning or meaningfully shaping a product or subsystem across multiple programs.
- A solid grasp of the spacecraft product lifecycle — concept through qualification, production, and sustainment, including TRLs — and the judgment to make sound, risk-based calls with incomplete data.
- The ability to work across Engineering, BD, Program Management, and Operations, and to lead technical discussions that land with both customers and internal teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Other responsibilities as assigned
- May include personnel management responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
- 7+ years of relevant engineering experience
- GNC engineering experience — extra points for familiarity with BCT systems
- Spacecraft systems engineering experience with direct experience in a subsystem BCT supports (ADCS, Power, C&DH, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with a component solution BCT supplies or competes against (star trackers, reaction wheels, CMGs, torque rods, sun sensors, SADAs, batteries, solar arrays)
- Technical product management or team leadership
- Configurable or variant-based product lines across diverse customer needs
- Trade studies and parametric analysis
- Familiarity with specs, SOWs, and subcontract technical inputs
- Flight-program experience under schedule pressure
- MATLAB or Python
- JIRA or similar planning/tracking tools
- A "figure it out and get it done" instinct
- Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education
