PAY RANGE
The Target Pay Range for this position is $138,300.00-$169,000.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $107,400.00 - $199,900.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.BENEFITS

Employees have access to disability and AD&D insurance. We also offer health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, as well as health savings accounts, to eligible employees. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan and employer-funded retirement plan. Newly hired employees accrue 6.16 hours of paid time off (PTO) on a per pay period basis based on hours worked (up to a maximum of 160 PTO hours per year) and receive ten paid holidays throughout the calendar year. As a Senior Systems Engineer at BECU, you’ll do more than build systems—you’ll create solutions that drive innovation across our engineering teams. You’ll play a key role in designing infrastructure with a security-first mindset, mentoring teammates, and building tools that make a real difference in how we work every day. To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, or SC. If you’re located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. Remote or onsite, we are committed to ensuring you are fully engaged and included in our collaborative environment.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead & Deliver: Guide a delivery team through designing, building, and testing system components and applications that meet business and tech needs.
- Mentor & Elevate: Share your knowledge with other engineers by mentoring them on best practices, code quality, and CI/CD processes.
- Build with Quality: Write and implement automated tests (unit, integration, interoperability) and integrate them into robust CI/CD pipelines.
- Automate Infrastructure: Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions using tools like Terraform and Bicep, and lead the team in adopting DevOps automation.
- Drive Collaboration: Partner with business and systems analysts, cross-functional engineering teams, and leadership to deliver holistic system solutions.
- Design with Insight: Develop architecture, process flows, and documentation that clearly communicate system dependencies, security protocols, and data flows.
- Own Telemetry: Ensure accuracy and completeness in system health metrics, logs, performance data, and pipeline tracking.
- Innovate & Prototype: Create proofs of concept and prototypes that demonstrate technical feasibility and lead design discussions across teams.
- Champion Security: Embed security best practices into all stages of development and proactively assess system risks.
- Jump in as Needed: Be flexible and ready to take on other responsibilities that help move the team forward.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical or business discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience delivering systems to production with strong IaC background
- 4+ years of experience with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Experience writing reusable, tested modules/libraries
- Strong PowerShell scripting ability
- Proficient in systematic debugging and pipeline automation
- Skilled in Test-Driven Development (unit, integration, and performance testing)
- Effective communicator—both written and verbal
- Available for on-call support as needed
- Experience with infrastructure systems like Azure PaaS/IaaS, AD, IIS, Windows/Linux servers
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Familiarity with multiple database platforms and complex SQL queries
- Background in integrating security at design time
- Experience performing code reviews and using GitFlow or Trunk-Based Development
- History of presenting technical concepts to peer audiences
