Position Overview
Hunter Douglas is the industry leader in automated window coverings and partners with major companies in home automation and the Internet of Things to deliver connected smart home solutions. We are seeking a Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer to serve as our technical anchor for the Motorization hardware platform — a hands-on, high-autonomy individual contributor role for an engineer who wants to own designs end-to-end rather than manage a team. You will take embedded electronics from concept through certification and high-volume production, working across mixed-signal, RF, power, and motor-drive circuits, and will be the go-to Altium and RF expert for the group.
About You:
- Ownership, drive, and a strong sense of urgency — you'd rather be deep in a schematic or a debug session than in a status meeting
- A demonstrated track record of taking consumer hardware (ideally battery-operated, wireless) from concept to shipped product
- Comfortable being the senior technical voice in the room — mentoring junior engineers and reviewing others' designs — without needing to be their people manager
- Able to work across disciplines (ME, ID, firmware, manufacturing, contract manufacturers) to get a design into production
- 8+ years of hands-on embedded electronics design experience, including complex mixed-signal and RF system
What You'll Do:
- Architect, design, and lay out schematics and PCBs for motorized window covering products and accessories, including low-power/battery, BLE, Wi-Fi, and Zigbee RF designs
- Own antenna design, matching, and RF certification support (FCC, UL/Demko, UKCA, CE) for wireless products in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands
- Design and evaluate battery management and rechargeable battery systems, including battery chemistry, charge/discharge behavior, and safety
- Design DC motor drive circuitry and support magnetic Hall-effect sensor / quadrature encoding for motion control
- Be the company's Altium expert: schematic entry, library and component management, AVL/alternate-component strategy, and production data pack creation
- Work directly with prototype and production PCB/CCA suppliers, and with test/manufacturing technicians to debug and resolve hardware issues
- Support the full product development lifecycle — from early concept and feasibility through EVT/DVT, certification, and sustaining engineering — partnering closely with firmware, mechanical, and industrial design teams
- Drive supply chain and cost-reduction efforts through component selection, AVL management, and design-for-manufacturing improvements
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians without formal management responsibility
Qualifications and KSIs:
- Expert knowledge of electronic circuit design (especially battery-operated, RF devices), simulation, PCB layout, verification, and debug
- Expert-level Altium PCBA design skills, including library/component management and Altium 365
- Prior experience with firmware/embedded software development (C/C++) sufficient to collaborate closely with firmware engineers on hardware/software integration
- Solid knowledge of serial communication protocols including I2C, SPI, SMBus, CAN, and PWM
- Working knowledge of FCC wireless standards and debugging techniques, and experience taking consumer products through UL/Demko safety certification
- Knowledge of battery chemistries and charge/discharge properties
- Knowledge of DC motor control techniques and circuits
- Experience with multiboard, flex, and harness design across a full system (not just a single board)
- Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in business terms
- Ability to independently exercise judgment in technical decisions and to review/approve the work of other engineers
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience
What's in it for you?
- Annual base salary range: $140,000 - $160,000
- Bonus target range: 25% - 35%
- Generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, disability
- A company culture that prioritizes internal development and professional growth
- Time off with pay
- 401(k) plan with a degree of employer matching
- Paid parental leave
- Wellness programs and product discounts
Please note, all offers presented to candidates are carefully crafted to ensure market competitiveness, equity, and reflect the individual candidate’s education, experience, skills and potential.
