The Communications Sr. Design Manager is responsible for building and leading a team of qualified communications and joint use engineers, project managers, and permitting specialists. Also overseeing the planning, analysis, and design of communications and broadband infrastructure, ensuring compliance, owner standards, and current regulations. This role combines business development, department growth, leadership of designers/Engineers and coordination with customers to ensure project quality and deadlines are met.  Additionally, this individual will support and develop strategies for the training, development and improvements of the resources and processes.

 

What you will do:

  • Build and manage a department of qualified communications engineers to meet the needs of an evolving communications landscape.
  • Develop and enforce standardized engineering protocols, documentation requirements, and quality control procedures to ensure all deliverables meet or exceed communications industry standards.
  • Provide high-level oversight and final approval on communications projects and deliverables.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing client accounts and lead technical presentations for prospective clients.
  • Oversee the technical components of bids, RFPs, and RFIs, providing accurate cost estimations and statements of work (SOW).
  • Manage the communications engineering department's annual budget, including software licensing, hardware procurement, and training expenses.
  • Coordinate with other company departments to ensure communications engineering efforts align with the broader company goals. Act as the primary point of contact for key clients, translating complex technical requirements into actionable project roadmaps.
  • Manage the engineering department's workload across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring all milestones are met on time and within budget.
  • Navigate client needs and project deadlines, provide transparent updates and proactively addressing potential issues or delays.

What you will bring:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Effective communication skills, able to meet with and effectively communicate with potential clients, employees and other departments within the company.
  • Strong working knowledge of Communications engineering, pole loading analysis, and permitting process.
  • Management Experience leading teams, enforcing quality management, managing deadlines, and reviewing construction packages for broadband deployments.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills include the development of Key Performance Indicators, benchmarks and analysis.

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, electrical, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent utility/OSP engineering experience.​
  •  5 - 7 + years of management experience in outside plant telecom or utility distribution engineering, including direct responsibility for departmental profitability.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
