We are seeking a strong contributor with relevant experience for a Homeowners Actuarial role. The position includes responsibility for developing and maintaining pricing tools as well as preparing and completing pricing analyses for homeowners products countrywide. The candidate would report to the Lead Actuary.
The Actuary will work with the Product Management team on a regular basis to provide updates on state and countrywide profitability and perform analyses at a state and countrywide level exercising quantitative and analytical skills.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As an Actuary, you’ll support our business through the following areas:
- Develop, prepare, and complete pricing analyses, including the development of rates, ultimate loss projections and communication of results
- Participate in development and update of Actuarial models and databases through formula development, research on methodologies, and collaboration on technical teams
- Strong understanding and ability to discuss and apply the use of existing & new actuarial concepts/techniques involving exposure adjustments, trend, loss development, exposure rating, et al with some assistance/guidance
- Apply mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze profitability on a state basis, and work with other Actuaries and Product Managers to make recommendations on what actions can be taken to improve product performance
- Work closely with Product Managers to support introduction of new products, enhancements to existing products, and/or entry into new markets to reach company profit and growth targets including post implementation analysis of new product and product updates
- Collaborate with business partners throughout the organization on the rate and rule revision process, including confirming scope and timelines, preparing filings to be submitted to state insurance departments, coordinating responses to regulator questions, and implementing final revision changes
- Identification of data issues requiring specialized actuarial attention
- Pursue formal education via Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exams and continuing education
- Other duties as needed to support the Homeowners line of business
WHAT IT TAKES
- Minimum of 2 actuarial exams completed, with continued commitment to the credentialing process.
- 1 or more years of experience in primary insurance pricing, with experience developing/working on pricing indications in Personal Home preferred.
- Strong technical actuarial skills and strong knowledge and understanding of rating models.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and negotiate with others and create acceptance for proposals.
- Well organized with a high level of accuracy and a strong attention to detail
- Desire to solve problems and think analytically
- Skilled in linking multiple data sources to organize data into a logical format for analysis.
- Experience with SQL and R or Python required, in addition, intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel is required
- Self-motivated with a can-do attitude
- Ability to work as a team player to deliver results effectively and efficiently to a variety of customers

The candidate selected for this position will be a creative, out-of-the-box thinker who is intellectually curious with a demonstrated interest in learning. This person will also need to be a self-motivated, high-energy individual who can easily function in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment. He/she must be accustomed to working on multiple tasks in parallel and committed to meeting deadlines, including some with short time frames. This professional must demonstrate strong leadership skills, including the ability to gain credibility with and influence both team members and management.
