About the Commerce Data Engineering:
The Commerce Data Engineering ensures the availability, reliability, and quality of the critical data that powers our product experiences, drives customer acquisition, and optimizes our signup journeys. The Foundations Team within the Commerce Data Engineering is dedicated to building frameworks, services, and tools that elevate the efficiency, reliability, and observability of data processing across the entire Commerce Data Engineering ecosystem.
The Opportunity:
As a Solution/Software Engineer in the Foundations Team, you will design and build scalable, forward-looking systems that improve data processing efficiency, data health, and developer productivity. You will collaborate closely with other data engineers and platform teams to create solutions that are widely adopted across the Commerce Data Engineering team and the broader Netflix data platform.
Your work will directly impact the quality and discoverability of our data, helping us deliver seamless, “in-the-moment” experiences to current and future Netflix members.
What You’ll Do:
Architect, build, and maintain distributed services and frameworks (gRPC/REST) that enhance the efficiency, reliability, and observability of data pipelines.
Develop tools and automation that improve data health, processing efficiency, and the productivity of data engineers.
Champion best practices in data quality, system health, and observability, ensuring our solutions are robust, reliable, and scalable.
Partner with cross-functional teams, including product management, data science, and engineering, to deeply understand business needs and deliver impactful solutions.
Drive innovation by exploring and implementing new technologies and methodologies that keep Netflix at the forefront of data engineering.
Own the systems you build, from design to deployment and ongoing operations, ensuring high availability and operational excellence.
About You:
You are proficient in at least one major language on the JVM stack (Java or Scala), and you write clean, maintainable, and elegant code.
You have hands-on experience building distributed services (gRPC/REST) and are well-versed in building APIs, frameworks, and transport protocols.
You have experience with batch and real-time data processing technologies (e.g., Spark, Flink, Kafka, Iceberg).
You have expertise in building data platforms and data frameworks
You are passionate about data quality, system health, and observability, and you design systems with comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting.
You have a product mindset, are curious about the business, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners.
You have a strong operational awareness and experience supporting 24x7, high-scale, multi-tenant systems.
You thrive in agile environments, embrace ambiguity, and adapt quickly to change.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $100,000 - $720,000.
