Summary:


Conda is the foundation of Anaconda's ecosystem, a world-class package manager used by over 50 million developers and data scientists worldwide. We're modernizing conda to be faster, more delightful, and competitive with emerging tools like Pixi and uv, while maintaining our commitment to the open-source community. As a Software Engineer on the Conda team, you'll collaborate with Anaconda engineers and the global conda-maintainers community to build features, fix bugs, and drive our Fast and Delightful modernization workstream forward.


What You'll Do:
  • Collaborate with internal engineers and external open-source conda-maintainers to improve conda, conda-build, and related plugins
  • Design and implement features that modernize conda's performance, user experience, and reliability as part of our Fast and Delightful initiative
  • Act as Feature Owner for select projects defining requirements, planning technical design, and delivering end-to-end solutions
  • Engage the open-source community through GitHub contributions, maintainer calls, and attendance at conferences
  • Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate implementation while maintaining deep understanding of solutions and ensuring the highest code quality
  • Work asynchronously across a fully remote team spanning 9 timezones, providing clear progress updates and documentation
  • Participate in Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of team processes

What You Need
  • 3+ years of professional Python development experience
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating on open-source projects, including pull requests, code reviews, and community interaction
  • Experience working asynchronously with distributed teams across multiple timezones
  • Proven ability to use AI tools to assist with implementation while maintaining deep solution understanding and code quality
  • Experience participating in Scrum or similar agile development processes
  • Track record of owning features from requirements definition through technical design and delivery

  • Experience with Rust or willingness to learn for performance-critical components
  • Background in package management systems, dependency resolution, or CLI tool development
  • Experience benchmarking and optimizing performance in large-scale systems
  • Track record of maintaining or contributing to widely-used open-source projects

  • Background at an open-source-first, AI, or data science company where community collaboration was central to the mission

The base salary range for this role is $94,000 - $138,500, along with annual bonus potential, equity participation, and benefits.


Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual compensation is determined by various factors, including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter will provide more specific details on the salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
