JOB PURPOSE

 

The Athlete Order Team at DICK’S Sporting Goods requires us to support, maintain, and enable a seamless, transparent, and reliable athlete order experience by ensuring all order data is delivered from a single, consistent source to both athletes and teammates. This role safeguards the integrity of the order lifecycle by providing secure, efficient processes for order creation, management, and fulfillment, while also maintaining accurate historical records that support operational excellence and informed decisionmaking. The architecture underpinning this work is guided by principles that include maintaining an immutable record of orders, ensuring scalability and high throughput to support growing order volumes, and promoting loose coupling to accommodate organizational transformation. It also relies on a highly distributed pub/sub model capable of supporting unlimited producers and consumers, strict event ordering to preserve data integrity, and replay capabilities that enable system recovery, feature development, and continuous improvement. 

 

We are looking for engineers who enjoy solving meaningful business problems through thoughtful system design, strong analysis, and collaboration. In this role, you will help build and evolve scalable enterprise solutions that power critical capabilities across Dick’s Sporting Goods. You will partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to analyze complex problems, deliver reliable systems, and continuously improve the platforms that support our growing omnichannel ecosystem. 

  

Acts as a product-team problem solver and domain SME to design, test, and deliver best-in-class solutions. Perform business and software analysis and coordinates work of moderate complexity within the assigned data-focused product team. The ability to evaluate the current solution landscape and recommend continuous improvements to system design, scale, and performance will set you apart. You are eager to analyze business and software needs, collaborate across teams, and work cross-functionally to build a robust omnichannel data platform that powers tooling for business operations, athlete care, store operations, vendor operations, and future search and intelligence products for Dick’s Sporting Goods. 

  

Tech Stack: Java, Kotlin, Postgres, Elasticsearch, and Kafka 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES                              

 

Software Development 

 

Develop existing software and contribute to development of new software by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement. Develop new software that is fast, secure and reliable to meet defined requirements. 

 

Software Maintenance 

 

Monitor, identify, and correct moderately complex software defects to maintain fully functioning software, with limited supervision from others. 

 

Technical Developments Recommendation 

 

Support efforts to research and suggest ways to optimize solutions to better meet user and/or business, performance, quality needs. 

 

Software Roadmap 

 

Maintain road map to facilitate software development and ensure the development work is prioritized in line with business requirements. 

 

Faults Diagnosis and Correction 

 

Find root cause and resolution to limit and address issues promptly. 

 

Functional/Technical Requirements 

 

Support collection of functional requirements using document analysis and workflow analysis to express requirements clearly and succinctly. 

 

Technical Persistence Layer/Legacy Database Design/Development  

 

Design database resources and provide physical modeling and design services to tune database solutions for optimum performance with some support from other teammates. 

 

Program/Portfolio Management Support 

 

Understand how to work within an established program management plan to achieve specific goals. 

 

Ongoing Learning and Development 

 

Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation where relevant to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience

Targeted Pay Range: $76,500.00 - $124,600.00. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that could include other components such as: incentive, equity and benefits. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
