Job Summary:
The Software Engineer I (AI) role is an entry-level to early-career position focused on supporting Nextech’s AI engineering initiatives. This role is well suited for a full-stack engineer with strong Python skills who is eager to work on AI-enabled systems, data pipelines, and application features that integrate machine learning and large language model (LLM) capabilities into production healthcare software.
Engineers in this role contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of AI-backed services and user-facing applications under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leads. The Software Engineer I (AI) is expected to work independently on well-defined tasks while learning Nextech’s AI platform, products, and development practices.

Essential Functions
- Implementing software features and enhancements that support AI-powered workflows and services
- Developing and maintaining backend services and APIs using Python
- Supporting full-stack development efforts, including frontend features (Angular or similar frameworks)
- Assisting with integration of AI/ML services, including large language model (LLM)–based capabilities
- Writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Translating well-defined requirements into functional software with guidance from senior engineers
- Participating in code reviews and incorporating feedback to improve code quality
- Assisting with testing, debugging, and issue resolution across AI and non-AI components
- Collaborating with Product Management, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions
- Learning and applying best practices for AI development, including iterative experimentation and evaluation
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Strong foundational knowledge of software development principles
- Familiarity with python and/or full-stack development concepts (frontend and backend)
- Experience working with REST APIs and basic data persistence concepts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate clearly
- Self-motivated, curious, and eager to learn new technologies
- Strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualification
- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and a modern frontend framework (Angular preferred)
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases
- Experience using Git or other source control systems
- Exposure to AI or machine learning concepts, including LLMs and prompt engineering
- Interest in AI-first development practices such as fast experimentation and iterative improvement
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
- Familiarity with healthcare software or regulated environments is a plus
