Software Engineer - AI/ML Focus

Realm is an AI-driven platform that helps industrial operations prevent failures before they happen, maximizing uptime and saving millions in lost revenue. Realm integrates with existing cameras, sensors, and control systems to detect and predict equipment failures, flag unsafe behavior, automate responses, and notify key personnel. Our customers include gold, gemstones, coal, and oil & gas operations across the United States, Africa, and Latin America.

• Build our AI platform, training custom computer vision models to predict equipment failures and risks, boosting efficiency and safety in industrial settings

• Shape our tech stack, deploying cutting-edge AI models to real-world systems integrating real-time sensor and camera data

• Work with our CEO, former CTO and cofounder of Blend ($1B public company), learning to build a world-class engineering organization

• Deploy technology at interesting industrial sites like underground mines

As an engineer at an early-stage startup, your responsibilities will vary from week to week as priorities evolve. In general, your technical work will consist of:

• AI and machine learning (~50%)

  • Use and training of computer vision models

  • Application of various LLMs in real-world settings

• Full-stack development (~50%)

  • Backend (TypeScript)

  • Infrastructure (Kubernetes)

  • Front-end (React and React Native)

• 4+ years of experience in a professional software engineering role

• Strong coding skills, problem-solving ability, and grasp of computer science and ML fundamentals

• Significant experience shipping production-grade solutions in computer vision or applied ML, leveraging both off-the-shelf and bespoke models as needed

• Entrepreneurial work ethic, drive for excellence, and belief in meritocracy, personal responsibility, and hard work

• Experience and comfort working on a remote team

• Rapid delivery of high-quality work (use of AI to accelerate your work is encouraged)

• Enthusiasm for building at all levels of the stack, from low-level infrastructure details to high-level product work

• Great judgment and intuition about security, testing, code quality, and tech debt

• Appreciation of functional programming, type safety, clean code, and automated testing

• Mastery of core development/infrastructure/DevOps tools (Git, Linux)

• US citizen or permanent resident, or Canadian citizen

• Based in North America
